Busy Day

Started with the sculptors installing the Carlton Fisk sculpture on the center field concourse (now covered with a green box).  It is very cool, although I admit a bias.  "The Commander" will be unveiled at 1:20 pm Sunday, so if you are attending the 2:05 pm game, make sure you arrive early.

Then we took the team photo this afternoon … two actually.  We took your normal shot at the pitcher’s mound.  Then, we copied a team poster froBainesm 1980 by arranging our guys loosely around, and on top of, the dugout.  It was funny because a handful of guys, Harold Baines, Herm Schneider, Art Kusyner, also were around in 1980.

Baines played the sweetheart role during batting practice.  In a prearranged moment, he walked over to a couple on the field and handed the woman a signed ball.  On the ball was a written proposal for marriage (from the guy, not Harold).  She accepted and everyone applauded.  Jerry Reinsdorf was a witness.  We encouraged him to marry the two right then and there (his being ordained and all), but he again reinterated that he was out of the marrying business.

A nice profile of Ken Williams in this issue of the Defender.  The cover shows KW at the ballpark with the caption:  "The Architect … The work of GM Kenny Williams is the prime reason why the White Sox are the talk of baseball."  Of course, the last thing KW is comfortable talking about is himself.
