Doubleheader Thoughts

Frank Stops In

Frank Thomas stopped into the White Sox clubhouse today before the doubleheader in Texas, saying his ankle was beginning to show signs of healing.  He is scheduled to visit the doctor on Thursday for another checkup.

Moves

Joe Crede tried to take batting practice before last night’s game and just couldn’t go.  Officially, he was placed on the disabled list today (retro to August 26) and the Sox recalled infielder Willie Harris from Class AAA Charlotte.

Another move will be made today between games of the doubleheader so that rookie Brandon McCarthy can start game two.

Tadahito

Second baseman Tadahito Iguchi did not start game one of today’s doubleheader after experiencing a couple of tough games Sunday and Monday.  His caring and loving teammates tried to get a laugh out of the serious Tadahito by taping a frying pan into his glove after last night’s game.  Iguchi was charged with three errors last night.

Detroit Pitching

Detroit’s pitching for the upcoming four-game series at U.S. Cellular Field:

RHP Jason Johnson, RHP Sean Douglass, LHP Nate Robertson and RHP Jeremy Bonderman.

so far this team looks a lot better without crede in the lineup but garland just looks awful out there. hes not throwing strikes.

Excuse me, but Crede has been playing fine lately considering he has two herniated discs in his back. Also, in case you hadn’t noticed, no one has been playing well recently. His defense never wavered and no one else on this team matches up to his abilities at third base. He hasn’t played in while and everyone was doing badly when he got hurt. When he gets back, he will be more than healthy and hopefully more than ready to produce.

yep, 5 for his last 55. sry but no one was doing that bad and i always did say he should have been on the DL a long time ago. thats no excuse for not playing good. and i bet half of his outs have been pop-outs or strike outs

He was batting 8th. Not every player on your team can hit .260 or.270. It just doesn’t happen. I don’t know if you noticed, but Geoff Blum has already made two errors in this game. Crede’s defense is phenominal and is why we need him on the team. We have other guys who hit on a more regular basis. Also, Crede almost always delivers in the clutch and is probably one of the most reliable hitters in a needy situation that the White Sox have.

How is Allen Thomas doing? I saw that he was taken back to the hospital to be treated for the Cellulitis from earlier this year. About 4 years ago, I was in the hospital for 10 days because of Cellulitis in my leg, so I feel that I can really relate to some of the pain he is going through. There are times for myself where it will return. Let him know that Sox fans are hoping he gets better!

Scott, I was wondering if Frank Thomas is going to be on the roster for the playoffs. I thought that he was supposed to be out for the rest of the season but I wasn’t sure if that included the playoff season.

Wait, is McCarthy pitching, or is Marte?

i agree blum does ****, but the second one wasn’t his fault the ball took a bad bounce. Blum shouldn’t be playing third. so dont blame blum. have u noticed how many runs the sox r scoring without crede. oh my god this is a much better team without him

i cant believe ozzie didn’t let McCarthy achieve his first complete game in his career. they were winning by 8!

lilj, you only have bad things to say. no team is ever going to be satisfactory for your standards.

good to see B. McCarthy get a win out of a good outing. and it’s also good to see S. Pods worrying opposing pitchers. he just brings some fight back into our team. Go Go White Sox!!

i agree with kr-trepac’s assesment of lilj. also, mccarthy left the game after throwing 117 pitches, perhaps ozzie doesn’t want to hurt him (do you know how many pitches he throws on average in the minors? i don’t). or perhaps ozzie just wanted to get jenks some game time. either way it was a great game for both pitchers and I don’t think anyone should be complaining he didn’t go all the way. let’s finish up this series with a win.

All I can say is, I guess that the Rangers told the guy who was stealing signs that it was only one game last night, and he could go home early. The Rangers and their Napoleonic manager Buck Showalter were outraged at the accusations coming from Mark Buehrle concerning sign stealing. They claim that they don’t have to do it. WELL,OF COURSE THEY DENY IT!
What the **** do people think, that they’re going to come out and admit it and ask for pardon and forgiveness?

Well not a whole lot of activity in terms of trades. I’m starting to feel better about the offense but can’t can’t quite shake my Griffey-jones. In any case it’s time for team-wide accountability which means steady contributions from everyone. And if pitching and defense are our staples, then prove to your fans you’re still capable of doing both consistently (Buerhle, Garland,Blum).

I think Buerhle should accuse every team he has faced since the all star break of stealing signs. because he’s been getting lit up since then. this team has choke job written all over it. kenny williams should be fired for not making any type of move. terrible.

also…paul konerko is getting his wish saying he’d rather go down with this team than have them make a trade. in my opinion he should be traded for saying that. what a joker…..if we couldnt pay el cabillo 8 mil a year i hope to the lord that they dont decide to resign this piece of trash!!

Ok, let’s not get too angry here. Despite the losing, they still have a great record. Not many teams can suffer this many losses and still be 29 games over. About Paulie, he was just trying to show loyalty to his teammates and their ballclub. If the Sox traded him, they would be in big trouble. As fans, we have to stay behind ALL of the players at all times. Without us, where are they going to get their support?!

Sox Fans,

I’m worried. Ozzie has started micro-managing and costing us a lot games. I know the guys are banged up, but seriously–it’s dial-a-lineup these days, and I wish Oz would just go with a serious and steady lineup. AJ batting 3rd? What’s that all about?

Oz needs to find a groove and run with it. Nobody knows what’s going on when they show up for work and check the lineup, and this HAS to cause friction in the clubhouse.

Oz, please, please, please go back to what worked to get you 30 games over–a solid steady line-up day-in and day-out and manufacturing runs.

The “team” aspect is slipping, and we need to get back to it.

If Jerry Manuel managed like Guillen has since the all star break all of you fans would be calling for his head. the team is winning in spite of guillen not because of him.

You’d think if the Rangers were stealing signs and someone accused them of it, they wouldnt go out next game and keep doing it, tom… i kind of doubt a team resigned to third place would bother.

im not concerned about missing out on the postseason… or having to play oakland in the postseason…

but can someone bat .300 for month??? .290?

i like seeing our leadoff man lead the team in average… but that average is .280

before the trade deadline, i said kenny williams could do whatever he liked without question after the results the moves he made in the offseason brought in…

but seeing every other al team in the hunt playing good baseball, coming back late, holding on to close leads… if we’re playing like this in october… that worries me.

As for crede(and uribe too), i like seeing them play, but there are plenty of guys out there that can hit .230… and let’s not delude ourselves into thinking theyre so great defensively that it doesnt matter.

credes at .232 with a .973 fielding%

uribes .238 and .974

Our *rookie* 2nd baseman is .280 and .977, and that’s after that 3 error meltdown.

If they can’t do better, next year we NEED to find some guys that will…

Napolean Dynamite comes to mind as I read these worthless posts by thouser, kenwo and myp00, “GOD IDIOTS!!!”. We have a 7 game lead on Sept. 1, like you wouldn’t have taken that on opening day. You are clearly the type of people that will never be happy, instead of complaining enjoy it.

We’re dancing with the boys who got us here. Sure there names, averages and paychecks are not that of others who are in the hunt but last I checked we still had the best record in the AL. RELAX!!!!

we have lost 15 of the last 22 at home. we went 12-16 in august. the indians are playing lights out and we have to play them a number of times before the season ends. if you arent worried about this situation then you arent a true sox fan or chicago fan for that matter. the collapse is coming!

I second that statement.

furthermore, our starting pitching has been shakey at best (excluding the minnesota series). the bullpen has been terrible (marte pollitte hermanson vizcaino). the hitting has been pathetic besides a couple of big hits by Dye. the defense is even falling apart. they are choking and kenny williams didnt provide them with anything at the waiver deadline. the dope manager had timo, blum, ozuna, AND harris in the lineup on the same day. I think i could have pitched and done well against the sox yesterday.

if you are so disgusted with the team and the manager and the general manager, then quit watching them. you have already given up so stop watching.

let’s go SOX!

I agree completely with kr-trepace…the instant something goes less than stellar, some people want to bail. We’ve had a great year, and will continue to do so. If we won during the second half like we did in the first, they’d complain there was no competition. As I’ve said before, when times are tough, that’s when TRUE fans support the team. We don’t need fairweather fans. As Paulie said in the Southtown, once you leave the bandwagon, no getting back on =)

ive been on the bandwagon since ive been alive. the organization would have you believe that this current band of overachievers is better than any white sox team in recent memory. they are full of it. 83 93 94 were the best teams. the sox have a regular outfield with 36 home runs combined. look at all the world series outfields the past 20 years. none of them came in with that pathetic number. as for “paulie” i sure hope he leaves the bandwagon in the offseason and signs somewhere else. he’s a disgrace for saying he’d rather lose with this team than add anyone else. hopefully HE GONE!

There is no banwagon to jump on or off in my house. I am a life long sox fan and a former resident of the surrounding Bridgeport neighborhood. I am backing the players 100% but I am very disapointed with Kenny Williams & Jerry Reinsdorf’s lack of realization that our hitting needs serious help. I follow the game very closely & am sorry to say I do not believe the sox can advance far into the playoffs with the way they are hitting. I hope I am wrong on this feeling but we’ll see. Go Sox & please please try to play better at home. Its been rough the last month at our south side ballpark. “always be Comiskey to me”

As much as the sox slide is disconcerting, I’m just having a hard time feeling bad about a ‘game’ when so many are suffering in the wake of the devastating hurricane, Katrina. NEW ORLEANS, YES!

It’s not so much a case of not supporting the Sox. It’s more of an issue of not believing in the Sox. Its an issue of heart vs. head. I want to believe this White Sox incarnation is capable of doing what so many before them have failed to do, but what have they done to warrant that type of faith? As long as a team that’s predicated on pitching and defense fail to do either we’re in for trouble. This is the time for Buerhle to achieve the elite status that has so far eluded him, not the time to comment on the game of laser tag going on in the Rangers outfield. This is the time for Garland to completely realize his potential, not the time to forget how to throw a sinker. This is the time for Freddy to step it up for the Chicago fans, not just the Venzuelan ones. The best thing about the first half of the season was the pride it evoked in the fan. That feeling is quickly turning to embarrassment as I try to rationalize and justify our play not just to others, but also to myself.

I think Kenny has tried to get hitters…and he almost succeeded, from what I’ve heard…except that Reds backed out at the last minute and wanted way too much…..Kenny has a track record of going out and getting guys that the team feels they need…can’t do it without someone willing to trade, who isn’t asking for unreasonable things in return.
