Scott, We fans are in a state of shock bordering on depression over what’s happening to our team … you gotta give us some indication about what the mood in the organization is.

Are the guys more upbeat than the fans — if so, tell us, because it’ll make me feel better about our prospects.

Are the guys in a state of panic like the fans — if so, tell us, because it’ll make me feel like I’m not alone.

Today is a must win game. We go into the Cleveland series only up 2.5… we might as well throw it in. Lohse v. Contreras… have to win.

We really need a win today & hopefully we’ll be able to put a few wins together.

I would also be interested in what the feelings in the clubhouse are like now.

Go Sox!!

Just keep tellin yourself- keep the faith. We’re goin to pull through.

Big game today- gotta get this win.

We’re still in control of our destiny…which is where we want to be.

Find the spark guys..

yeah! a post without kenwo’s bellyaching ( so far) his type of complaining does no one any good. today is a game we need to win but i wouldn’t say it’s a must win. what i want to see, win or lose is a well played game that shows we are still interested in competing with the rest of the central. we do still have our own destiny in front of us. let’s go out there and take this thing starting today. but, in the event that the worst happens these next two weeks, we have had a great season and can proudly say we are white sox fans. and yeah, i still want to weara my w.s. tee shirt to spring training next year…
j.k. in tucson, out.

Jose had a nice start once again. We are 1 out away form the win and who better to have on the nmound than Jenks? Saying we win (knock on wood) I think itll give our guys confidence in pitching again and were going to need all the pitching we can get against the Indians.

Good win today, one step closer.

Ready to see Garcia put everything behind tomorrow and start pitchin like he is able to. Find that spark Freddy.

Until tomorrow..

What the heck is with this quote regarding fan attendance at the park from today’s Sox Notes?

“‘I don’t care about the fans. I just care about this team,’ said Freddy Garcia, who starts Monday’s series opener against Millwood.”

We all know that attendance hasn’t been spectacular & the players could be frustrated by this, but this is really not the right thing to say, Freddy. Perhaps it should have been worded “I don’t care about the fan ATTENDANCE,” because if you really don’t care about the fans, you have got a big big problem. Focus on baseball – that’s your job, but don’t hurt the fans who do come watch you play or those at home watching or listening because that’s all they can afford to do.

That quote was a slap in the face, and I’m not sure I’ll be cheering so loudly at the park tomorrow when Freddy steps up on the mound.

I disagree with anastasia710. Freddy shouldn’t care about the fans. He should care only about the team. That’s what is important right now. If you’re a player and are worried about the fans, you’re not focused on what you should be focusing on: winning ball games.

Anastasia is right. I also really hope that Freddy meant to say about the fan attendance. Otherwise that comment is just stupid.

I understand that they must feel frustrated about the recent games, but never insult the fans like this. Of course the team is important, but the team wouldn’t exist without the fans.

Go Sox!

I have met Freddy and I can tell you he is the nicest professional athlete I have ever met. When I said that I didn’t think I should see him pitch anymore, because I thought I was jinxing him, he apologized to me for his home record and assured me that I could still go to the games. He was an absolute doll. So I have a hard time thinking he meant that quote how it came across. You have no idea what question he was asked, how many times he answered it or what he actually said.

I can only imagine how irritating some of the questions from the reporters can be right now, and just how stressed out the whole team is. So before you decided that Freddy is a jerk, I would give him a break and assume the meaning you are taking from that quote is not at all what he intended.

Well put. A couple of points to add: 1) The quote within the article is taken out of context. That is, we don’t know what question Freddy was answering when he offered that remark. 2) Freddy’s second language is English. Is it possible that he may not have articulated his thoughts as clearly as he would have had he been answering in Spanish?

When things aren’t going right, it’s so easy to focus on the negative… whether it’s the team’s performance or a comment made by a player or something else. Pick up any local paper these days, and you don’t have to search far for an article barraging the Sox.

I personally don’t see the point in that. Negative reinforcement doesn’t work. In fact, it only seems to breed more negativity. We all know the past few weeks have been difficult, as will the final 2 weeks of the season. Why add more fuel to the fire?

I’m confident that Freddy cares about the fans. I’m confident that this team has the talent to take us all the way. And I’m confident that we, as fans, can support them in a positive manner. Go to the Cell this week. Inspire someone else to go. Cheer loudly and proudly: LET’S GO SOX!!!

well said, mariawagener. it seems to me that the fan base is turning around( witness the positive nature of posts today), just like our team is. great play today, and for a change the breaks went our way instead of against us. i guess that’s the nature of a long season. i expect us to win the series from cleveland, but even if we don’t, we’re still in the lead. just keep playing good sound ball and the rest will take care of itself. go sox.

Scott,
Are you trying to win in Chicago or what. During a championship season you either help or you don’t. When things are going well, people seem to forget what got them to the top, however, the top is only determined at the end of the season not in july or august. Email me and I’ll send help, if you don’t ask yourself if you’re doing all you can.

Yes, of course, there is the possibility Freddy’s quote was taken out of context or not clearly defined because English is his second language…but the same sentiment is reflected by him again later in the same article – an article not published in the Chicago media, but on the White Sox’s own website.

I’m not trying to brew up negativity here, but that’s a difficult comment to let roll off. Just as I support the White Sox team & organization daily amongst fellow Chicagoans who are naysayers about the team, I also support the fans who love the team and defend the White Sox daily, too. If the team isn’t happy with the fans who aren’t showing up, don’t group them together with the fans who are or who can’t. If it was an unscrupulous reporter who misrepresented Freddy’s intentions, what goes around comes around in the end.

Anyway…this series coming up against the tribe is going to be intense…whoever ends up at the park will be there supporting the team and the players and staff that have put us and kept us where we are today…in 1st place. Play ball and play hard.

~~Go Sox~~

Ok..maybe it’s late and I’m not thinking clearly, but I read charles post and all I can say is “HUH”?!?!?! Great win today…Bobby Jenks=Real Deal. Loved watching him strike out LeCroix with that 97 mph hammer that just fell off the table =) GO SOX…we’ll take them one day at a time…

Talking about the Sox fans…… You Chicagoans (and others)that call yourselves Sox fans are nothing but a joke. I live in Montana and have been a life long Sox fan. I used to love it when I’d come back to visit in the late 80′s and early 90′s and there’d be maybe 2000 “fans” at Old Comiskey. You could buy a upper deck seat and by the 3rd inning you were sitting along the third baseline. You “Chicago” White Sox fans are the worst. No wonder they wanted to move the team. I was at a game in early August against the Mariners (Sun.-kids day) It was nothing but a casual outing for you idiots. You ought to have some passion for your team such as the Red Sox, Yankees or that other dreadful team on the north sides’ fans. You are an embarrassment as far as a fan base.

I agree there is major disappointment coming for all of us true fans this year. I think Ozzie should GO. Not even close to manager material.

Like I said earlier Indians win the division by 3

I’m a sox fan.
So..and you can quote me on this, I don’t care about what Freddy said. I care about this team.

It was great to see us play that game today. Nice to see another team(the twins, no less) making baserunning errors and defensive errors in crucial situations.

I hate hearing all this talk about a collapse and how the team’s falling apart. Our best mark this year was 36 games above .500. Right now, we’re 32 above. It’s not like we’re playing .300 and just handing the division over. I remember back in something like May hearing Ed Farmer talk about how if we played just .500 from that point on we’d have 90+ wins, and he figured that’d be good enough for the division. And I remember that dreadful August, when i projected what the tribe would have to play to catch us if we played .500. It was almost .800.

HA. don’t even need to be worried because that won’t happen. Well, it very nearly is happening.

But if you told me in March after hearing about how great all the other teams in the central were going to be where we’d be at right now, i’d take it gladly. what’s more, it’s freddy, buehrle, and big jon due up for us on a big homestand in which we don’t see C.C. or Lee. That’s as nice a matchup as you could ask for us to see.

I plan on going to buehrle’s game, and I have tickets for thursdays game… i don’t know how that johan hasn’t already won 25 games considering what we’ve seen of him so far this year, but i hope i’ll see a bit of it then.

Great to see Crede and Juan coming around a bit. Hopefully Carl comes back around, too. Let’s see some more of that central magic.

No matter what happens this series, we’ll still be in first, so let’s give em a show.

LET’S GO WHITE SOX

ITHINK OUR GUYS DID A GREAT JOB TODAY, BUT I HATE TO SEE A.J. GET HIT BY PITCH, THEY DID IT INTENTIONALLY, BUT WHATEVER WE WON…. HEY GUYS STOP SAYING ALL THAT STUFF ABOUT GARCIA , HE IS A GREAT GUY AND I AM SURE THAT HE DID NOT MEAN WHAT HE REALLY SAID,, WE ALL KNOW THAT HE IS BILINUAL AND MAYBE IT WAS A MISTAKE.. HE IS A GREAT PITCHER AND HOPEFULLY HE WILL WIN TODAY,,, AND AS I LOVE TO SAY IT, G0-GO WHITE SOX MANAR ALBAROUDI

today was a good win….but unfortunately contreras can’t pitch every day for us. we go into the indians series with 3 of the top overrated pitchers in baseball going for us. at least one of them needs to step up. as far as attendance goes- the fans did show up…and what happened. the choking sox lost almost every game that drew a big crowd. par for the course.

kenwo and rehmers sound like friends!

oh no…unlike him i live in chicago and go to 40 games a year. il be there tuesday wed. thurs. and friday this week. (cant make today because i am hooked on the new show prison break on fox…its great check it out)…i just call it like i see it and i think we are headed for a wild card birth. which i suppose is fine but being old school in my thinking the wild card is for sissy’s..win the division for pete sakes.

To those of you who believe there are unscrupulous members of the print media out there who are willing to take advantage of those who don’t speak or understand the language all that well, all I can say is this…pick up your gold-plated Willy Wonka passes at Gate Four at the Cell tonight and come on in… And to rehmers, all I can say is this…keep breathing in those clean gales of air from Montana, but watch out that the wind doesn’t blow completely through the massive hole in your head between your ears… It is time tonight for the boys to step up to the plate, literally, and put up or shut up…In a best case scenario, Wednesday night about 11:30 pm or so,the Cleveland team bus will leave the lot heading towards the airport with a lot of grim(and not Bob Grim,Scott)faces and a six and a half game trail, with the magic number down to five. Then those of us who post on this site can ask rehmers how things are in the great state of Montana. But,if that doesn’t play through, as I’ve written before, don’t consider jumping off the MIchigan Avenue bridge, folks…keep in mind that it’s only a game, not life and death and that the devastation in Louisiana and Mississippi and elsewhere is a whole h***uva lot worse….

YEAH!! what tomquaid said!! Faith until proven otherwise…then perspective!

GO SOX!!! -Dawn

I 2nd the idea of rehmer having a hole in his head. I think Freddy will step up tonight and pitch like we’ve seen him pitch in the past. I just want to see the rest of the team fired up, which I’m sure they are. Go Go White Sox!!

Thanks, Dawn, for the thought you put into the brief post. Let me put it this way…I have been a fan of this franchise since 1960. I was with them when they were winding up second fiddle to the Yankees all those years, then to the Orioles, Red Sox, Twins, Oakland,Kansas City, etc…I was with them when they were worse than the worst in 1970 and I was there when they took it all in ’83,’93,’00 and (hopefully)’05. However,I have also learned that,if they don’t do all that well, the sun will still come up in the morning somewhere, life will go on and another season will be upon the horizon before too long…See,folks, the “win or die trying” motto is catchy for marketing this ballclub, but it shouldn’t be taken literally…

Anyone see the movie “Major League” –

Let’s hope the Sox are the stars of that movie tonight and for the rest of the series. (By the way – for those who saw Major League 2, the Indians lost to the Sox in the playoffs!!).

Let’s send those Drew Carry-type, mistake-by-the-lake, fluke-winners back to the Jake with their tails between their legs. What time is it?? GAME TIME!!!

GO SOX!!!
