Today’s Papers

Great coverage, both quantity and quality, in today’s newspapers.  Those of you who live in Chicago, make sure you pick up several copies.  They are worth keeping.

Yesterday’s Fans

Thanks to all the White Sox fans who drove or flew over to Detroit to enjoy yesterday’s clinch celebration.  Your support was loudly heard and appreciated in the clubhouse.  Our players came back out on the field after the game, but unfortunately, fans had already been cleared from the ballpark, so we weren’t able to share in the celebration like in Minnesota (2000).  That’s OK, we plan on having three more of these this October.

Thanks to the Tigers

Who were very gracious hosts yesterday and very accommodating.  Can you imagine what it must be like to clean up that clubhouse?

Scott,
Will the White Sox be selling any of those post game team photos? I saw the White Sox go back on the field and take a team picture where they were all in the new shirts, holding bottles of champagne, and smokin’ stogies. That’s the one I want.

Hey scott, i already got the sun times, tribune, red eye, and red streak, are there any others that have a good article or picture about us?… great pictures and perfect celebration here in chicago… i slept very well last night, the best sleep in over a week… well thanx everyone and GO SOX GO SOX GO SOX…

One more thing, where was Frank yesterday? Didn’t he want to celebrate with his teammates? I wish he was healthy and still playin gon this team. He would have helped and more importantly, he is a lifelong White Sox.

Frank met the team at the hotel in Cleveland. They showed him on FOX 32 sports last night spraying the bus with champagne. Wish they could activate him for the playoffs — can’t he just stand there and try to hit home runs like Kirk Gibson in the ’88 World Series?

I just wish, for Frank’s sake, that he could be more of a part of this and be out there on the field playing along side of the rest of the guys. Glad to know he was in Detroit though.

I haven’t seen the paper yet, but let me just say its about time. I am so happy the Sox won, and I hope they continue to prove all the doubters wrong. The coverage has been completely unfair the last month.

Scott,

Hard to focus on anything with all of this excitement! Still so proud of the guys!

The papers are awesome…and did everyone see even Wrigley handin’ out the props on their board? ha Made me laugh.

Keep rollin to the Series!

Thats one heckuva drive to Detroit… Next time I’m flying…. But still gotta get through the drive to Cleveland starting at 5AM tomorrow thanks to FOX (ARGH!)… Final road trip of the year (perhaps)… so far 12-7… GO SOX GO!

Thank you.

Maybe when we win it all Sox fans will finally be able to give up this victim mentality many have. Just remember, everybody loves a winner. When the Sox take the series this year, the media in Chicago, with the exception of that Cubs rag, will be saying Cubs? do we have a team named the Cubs? I said it before I’ll say it again, Sox win the series in 6.

I saw the Bright One today, and their intrepid columnists(aka the Weathervane and Mr.Telander)stated that it is not good enough just to win the division, but to go on all the way….REALLY,guys???You’re kidding, right???Like none of us have been saying that since,oh,about April 4th at 1:07 pm, when the first pitch was thrown in anger for the 2005 regular season.

That brings me to my rant today about the media, specifically the print media. My good friend says that there should be a small diclaimer printed at the start of each column by Jay,Rick,Morrisey,Rappaport, etc which states…”The views expressed in the following column are based solely on which ever organization is currently popular, and which are scuffling for attention…” There must be an adage somewhere in some sort of handbook for columnists which states “If you can’t say anything nice about a person or a group of people…go right ahead.” At least that is the story here, or it seems to be.

Now to the electronic side, specifically the new radio rights holder for next season. First off, John Rooney, the best broadcaster that this team has had since the heyday of Bob Elson,is leaving after the final game is played. The program director of the station wants to explore “outside the box” to find a replacement for the number two position, since Ed Farmer is sliding to the number one chair. There were stories printed that a certain morning show host who will (and should) go unnamed was interviewing for that job. I have heard this person try to do color work on other broadcasts, and to say he was lacking in ability would be like saying that the Grand Canyon is a small hole in the ground in Arizona…Other non-baseball and retreaded names have been thorown out as well for positions on next year’s broadcasts…(RICHARD ROEPER???ARE YOU KIDDING ME???SAY THAT YOU’RE KIDDING,PLEASE!!!)

So, in response to this I am putting one more thought out for mulling over. And I am serious as the proverbial heart attack when I write this. I would like to place MY application in for the number two job on White Sox radio in ’06…What qualifications do I have? Well, I have a great set of pipes(voice), a passion for this team and organization and for the SPORT (not necessarily the BUSINESS)of baseball and I have been preparing 46 years and practicing the last 38 years for the opportunity. All I need and request is a personal audience with Brooks Boyer and Bob Grim, the men who make these decisions, so I may sell myself and my abilities to them. Am I NUTS?, or does this sound probable?

you’re nuts

I want to commend Ozzie on the excelent job he’s done this year. In only his second year he’s taken us to 96 wins and maybe further. He doesn’t get nearly as much credit as he deserves. People get down on him for being outspoken but in this world of never-ending sports-cliches he’s like a breath of fresh air. He calls it like it is. When we were playing like **** he didn’t mince words. He spoke the truth. I think alot of the controversy stems from the sterilized media being jealous that a manager speaks his mind so freely. I still love Magglio, but that rant by Ozzie was classic and one of the funniest things I ever heard. It also quickly truncated what could of degenerated into months of bickering between the two camps. Keep it up Ozzie, I’m proud to have your fiery temperment back on the SouthSide!

was that twillis or Dave Wills that posted that?(for those of you who remember the former pre and post game host, now suffering down in Tampa with the D-Rays…)
Anyway, some other random posts for now…Best wishes to the Crede family on the new addition, the heiress to the future fortune…2)Good luck to Scott,Bob Bechtol,Vivian Stalling,Katie Kirby and the rest of the PR squad in deal with the hordes of media, print and electronic, that will come charging in to 35th and Shields starting Tuesday–you folks have your work cut out for you, but like the team you know what you’re doing and are prepared for all eventualities…#3 and last, not to take any business away from Scott or this page,BUT…drumroll, please…I have started my own blogpage. To find it, please go to http://fromthewindycity.blogsp-ot.com…I started it up on Wednesday of this week, and as soon as I can figure out how to maintain it, it will be (God willing) an almost daily feature…Please check it out…Thanx

palehoses, I could not agree more..This team had some of the nicest men, with some of the stiffest personalities(Gene Lamont,Terry Bevington,Jerry Manuel)sitting in that dugout before Oswaldo showed up with the Venezuelan touch. But I also think he’s done an outstanding job delagating responsibilities to the coaching staff as well…Harold Baines, Greg Walker, Don Cooper and the others have their specific duties and handle them, without having to hear from Ozzie. That kind of organization, along with proper execution, should put the boys in good stead for quite a while in post season.

I’ve also heard the “unnamed” interviewee that tomquaid spoke of. He did the broadcasts for a certain local arena football team. I do not think he would be a good choice for the White Sox broadcasts. Please get a professional who is passionate, or at least interested, in the White Sox.

I loooove the White Sox. It’s nearly impossible to walk around the South Side today and not see a Sox shirt walking around every corner!

I was watching the game on tv yesterday and also noticed all the Sox fans cheering in Detroit. Scott, what is the possibility of opening U.S. Cellular Field on the days of away playoff games and broadcasting the games on the jumbo video screen for the fans still in Chicago to watch? It may be too late to do for the first playoff series, but what about the last 2? I’m pretty sure I remember the Bulls did something similar in the ’90s when they were playing for the Championship outside of Chicago. It let the fans at home celebrate the pentultimate wins of the season even though the team was on the road. Could it happen?

P.S. At the next big win, the cameras need to be shuffled out of the locker room a little sooner or the players kept aware of the open lenses a little longer. CSN broadcast a few risque scenes during the celebrating yesterday. Yikes!

GO WHITE SOX!

anastasia…if you thought yesterday was slightly risque, just keep this in mind… usually by this time of year, the only people other than the players and management in the clubhouse are, well, NOBODY… not even the media corps care to cover them up…They’re just not used to the fun of a winner… With time and repetition, they’ll get used to it.

I hear ya anastasia. I think it was when they were interviewing Coops and the camera was directed at the showers. Some player started taking off his drawers and as the cameraman saw it and started panning away, Ross Gload poured beer over Don’s head blocking the unidentified nudist from an unfortunate city-wide exposure. Bobby may have got the biggest save of the day but Gload got the best.

Tomquaid…I tried to reach your blog and couldn’t get to it. Maybe there’s something wrong with me, but…I loved every minute of the clubhouse scene… seeing their excitement was contagious. I saw the scene, but it was handled quickly and it was nothing more than you see on network tv these days!

Coming into tonights game both teams have scored 70 & 69 runs respectively with the Sox taking the slim edge. That stat being stated, I’m going to predict with our lineup tonight of big league hopefuls, excluding Pods & Crede, that we’re going to still score our average of 5 runs per game against the Tribe. Thus proving that we’re about team and not just one or two players. I’m just hoping that when I travel to Cleveland tomorrow that I get to greet the regulars. GO SOX!

THANK YOU!!!! GO SOX!!!! We’ll be celebrating a lot more this October too! Got a nice surprise when I came home from a short biz trip this week. My girlfriend surprised me and scored some great tix for Tuesday’s game! Thanks babe, you’re the greatest!! I think I’ve turned this ‘Detroit’ girl into a Sox-fan-atic! (Well, probably the team and Pods have helped too – LOL)! Anyway, home field advantage now too!!! CONGRATS !!!

Scott, I just want to thank you once again for giving Sox fans this inside look at the happenings of our favorite obsession. Also, what an awesome night. The Sox have nothing else to prove in the regular season, by clinching homefield throughout the playoffs. Let’s get a 11 more W’s and win the whole thing!!

I LOVE anastasia’s idea of opening the Cell and broadcasting away games on the Jumbtron. Unlike Cubs fans, who have Wrigleyville, we have nowhere to congregate. Nowhere. I suppose we could sit in some parking lot somewhere and play bean bag, but sheesh, White Sox, you tore down the neighborhood for parking lots, and now we’ve got nowhere to hang out. Open the Cell! Put Away games on the Jumbotron! Great idea, Anastasia.

here we go, we did it tooday in cleveland. i think we r finally back on track, i think the guys finally know how much they need to play hard after they got the divison, i am glad that they r winning them games. even though we played cleveland with just 2 veterans. and guess WE WON, SO NOW WE DON’T CARE ABOUT ANY TEAM, AND WE PLAY WITH ANY LINE UP, THE VETERANS THE ROOKIES AND WE WILL STILL WIN, DO U KNOW WHY? IT’S BECAUSE WE R THE WHITE SOX AND WE R THE BEST. very good win tonight at cleveland, but i wished it ended in only 9 innings, so that the guys don’t get tired, because they celebrated hard yesterday. yaaaaah baby….. they deserve it after all that hard working.. . ozzie and his guys have done an awsome job.. i am really happy, especially that i was laughing at my cubs friends at school.. wa hahahaahaa…. it is a great feeling… well i can’t wait till tuesday, can they start the playoffs tommorow?, haha,, just kidding,, because i am so excited about it… well i have to wait i guess… GO SOX GO SOX.. GO WHITE SOX.

This is the month we’ve all been waiting for. The month where we turn this thing around. Of course I want to win the whole shebang, but realize we’ve now gotten two teams into the playoffs in the last 5 years. If anything maybe that’s an indication of what’s to come. Maybe we’re starting to erase the culture of complacency in this city and hopefully we start to put a contender on the field with regularity. The 21st century is the century of the Sox!

Watching last nights game I was amazed at the play of some of our younger players. We’ve got bonafide burgeoning stars out there. Ross Gload, Borchard and especially Willie Harris are too good to be shuffled back and forth between Triple A and the bigs. I hope we give all of them a legitimate shot next year and if we don’t I think we owe it to them to let them pursue their major league careers elsewhere. All three of them have the potential to be everyday players.

NICE , VERY NICE GAME. this is what we been waiting for,,,, i hope we will sweep the tribes tommorow and lets not let them be happy by going to the playoffs,,,, lets sweep them.. i think the guys that ozzie is trying are doing just fine. they won two games vs. the tribes, so they r looking pretty good… they took two from us here in chicago, but we r going to try to sweep them there in cleveland.. well GO SOX, and lets not care about tommorow’s game, and lets look forward at tuesday…. GO SOX, lets win games, like we been doing all year long, and lets get a world series. GO SOX GO SOX GO SOX .. NICE HOMER BY IGUCHI… GO SOX

I BELIEVE THAT PALEHOSES IS RIGHT ABOUT THE YOUNG GUYS, THEY R DOING GREAT AND I THINK THEY SHOULD PLAY MORE NEXT SEASON. GO SOX, AS LONG AS WE WINNING THEN IT IS ALL GOOD, GO SOX GO SOX

I agree. After winning our 98th game with a team many in the national media picked 3rd or 4th – Ozzie better get the manager of the year.

That said, the one major gripe I had about him from July on was the lack of playing time for Gload, Anderson, and Borchard when some of our guys were struggling at the plate.

They certainly hold more promise offensively than Timo. But, today makes it two in a row over a great team who needs these games desperately – what a way to enter the playoffs!

I know buehrle hit it dead on when asked about this series, but it sure is nice to see the tight wins the team’s pulling out right now…
thought there’d be a lot more talk going on about our games and the implications theyve had on the east.

But whatever, it looks like the red sox are on their way to chicago.

this is what we’ve been watching for all year. Let’s give em a show.

GO SOX!!!

Sweeping the Tribe after already winning the division would be sweet….just to put them in their place after all their trash talking. Especially if it knocks them out of post season play. Team is looking good, and it’s nice to see us winning with such a unique line up. Does anyone know if any current players will be at the celebration on Monday? The info I saw on it mentions the mayor, past players, etc..but I don’t see it said that the team will actually be there. Thanks, and let’s keep rolling!! -Dawn

HEY MANAUSA, HOW COME YOUR OWN BLOG ISN’T IN ALL CAPS?

Scott,
what happened? The Sox clinch and you disappeared. On a celebratory bender or what?

Great Job Sox, bat boys all the way up to Kenny. well except Joey Cora, everyone else, GREAT JOB.

Joey Cora did a great job, too. Every single third-base coach in the league gets blamed for disasters at the plate. Cora did a better job than most, and his calls fit with the aggressive style of the 2005 Go Go White Sox.

We lead the league in caught stealing, so those could be called mistakes too, but the aggressive style of play worked:

We lead the league in wins.

HEY PSHEEHAN, MY BLOG ISN’T IN CAPS BECAUSE I AM NOT SCARED ANYMORE. LOL JUST KIDDING.. i am glad that we r going to play the red sox, because u know white and red sox match up,, lol… VERY NICE SWEEP TODAY, I AM GLAD THAT WE GOT THE TRIBES OUT, HAHAHAHAA…. GO SOX, NICE CATCH BY AARON TODAY, AND ALSO A NICE OUTING BY MCCARTHY, AND A HUGE HR FOR DYE… OK NOW, WE R READY FOR THE RED SOX, SO NOW I JUST HAVE TO WAIT, I AM GLAD THET CONTRERAS IS GOING FOR US… THANX OZZIE.. WELL I HOPE U ALL WENT TO MY WEBSITE AND SAW THE SOX PICTURES, AND HERE IS MY WEBSITE AGAIN: http://spaces.msn.com/members/manarthespecial/ .. GO SOX,,
