Sox Lineup for Game 1 of ALCS

Pods, LF … Iguchi, 2B … Dye, RF … PK, 1B … Everett, DH … Rowand, CF … AJ, C … Crede, 3B … Uribe, SS … Contreras, RHP.

Early Riser

As usual, Paul Konerko and Aaron Rowand are among the earliest to arrive in the White Sox clubhouse.  You can always find PK sitting in the lunch room working on that day’s crossword puzzle.

Don Cooper and Greg Walker are always around.  Coop was running through his reports with advance scout Bryan "Twig" Little.

I told Coop I was surprised to see him given several newspaper reports that he was under consideration to be the next pitching coach for the Yankees, but I was happy that he came in to work for the White Sox today.

"Yeah," Coop said with his Long Island accent and a smirk.  "I thought I just might see this one through."

By the way, Coop is safely under contract with the White Sox through 2006.

GO WHITE SOX…for those of you who were lucky enough to not get totally jacked by Ticketmaster…EARN YOUR RIGHT TO HAVE THOSE SEATS. SCREAM YOUR LUNGS OFF. If you can’t leave The Cell completely hoarse, you shouldn’t have gone in the first place. Many of us want to be where you will be tonight.

Speaking of which, Scott….I’m disappointed you haven’t further addressed the ticket issue in your most recent posts. Some of us diehards really did get the shaft in a very odd way. I know this is a time for celebration and anticipation, but your further silence on the ticket issues is deafening. Please address it one more time with further clarity.

GO-GO-SOX!

In case you didn’t see my last post in the day 1 blog…Congratulations to our “Most Revolutionary Blogger” Scott! He receives his first “Bloggie” from MLB…ah we knew ya when….Congrats Scott

…off to the game & I’m sure I’ll be needing plenty of throat lozenges when I get back home tonight!

I know a lot of the media is hyping the red-eye flying & the probable weariness of the Angels, but everyone knows what happens when we assume… Can’t wait to watch the Sox bring their A-game like they’ve been doing the past 8 games…make it 9, boys!

This blog is terrific! Thanks for taking the time to give an inside perspective to the fans!

Go Sox!

Four hours and counting Sox brothers and sisters. Couple quick observations: I read that too about Coops and the Yankees. I know how strong the allure to return home is so I’m glad he’s under contract through 06. When people talk about how great our pitching is, they often neglect the two most important components of that; namely Coops and A.J. Great job coach.

Second what’s the deal with Bartolo? Is he hurt or is he just playing possum, looking to pull a Willis Reed in Game 3? Either way you’ll get what you got coming Tolo.

Third all the noise about the columnist is justified. The only columnist I can think of that gave us the time of day is Rob Neyer of espn.com. He’s the only professional columnist I can recall that said we’d win the division in March. Phil Rogers is on point usually too (not that I’m endorsing the Trib).

Finally, we gotta keep our wits about us with this team. Unlike Boston, there’s more than two people in the lineup capable of turning the entire game around. Pitching is paramount but hitting is necessary, let’s do both to perfection. Go Sox!

STANDING ROOM ONLY TICKETS?!? WHAT IS THE DEAL?

An Arizona fan (and former Chicagoan) who grew up in Bridgeport wishes he were back home for this series and the next one.
I’m old enough to remember the banners that were strung across Canal Street for the 59 Series.

GO GO WHITE SOX-GO GO WHITE SOX!

UPDATE: Bartolo Colon was left off the Angels ALCS roster. He will not pitch a single inning against the White Sox.

GO GO SOX!!

This is it – the reason I woke up this morning. I will be screaming from Seattle. Go Sox! – Rorie http://www.whitesoxnation.mlblogs.com

We are sending our cheers all the way from Japan! Let us know if you hear it!

Scott,

Tough loss… hopefully it was just rustiness coming through. Can’t wait to watch tomorrow, but I don’t get FX in my room here at school, so I was wondering if there was any way to find out which regions will have the game on Fox, and which will have it on FX. I’m trying to figure out if I have to go to a bar to watch it tomorrow… Is there any website that would say?

Thanks.

Contreras pitched outstanding tonight. I hope he doesn’t lose his confidence because he deserved that win tonight, and we need Contreras.

Hopefully, the Sox can shrug off this loss and call it ALCS jitters.

Sox need to come out aggressive, hungry, and play baseball we know they can play.

Go Sox!

Rowand on first, have AJ take a pitch ma fudgers.
instead, 1st pitch swing, fielders choice, rowand out at first. oh, rowand should have stole second and the take sign should have been in effect? oh well,***** it, have aj try to steal, even though all of his SBs in his career were on the *** end of double steals, send him anyway…. uh, why? down 1, dye up, no outs, noone on, give him a bunt sign. Dye hasnt bunted since, well, never, but this is only the ALCS. this is supposed to be winnign baseball? are the Sox on the take again or what, because thats the ONLY logical explaination…***** you ozzie, i’d fire you on the spot.

edit: rowand was out at second on FC, AJ should have taken a pitch, Konerkos pop outs infuriate me, Dye bunting, nobody on, nobody out, down 1??????? ***>> ********* !(!( 1919 all over again. thanks for helping me relive this ********, if i was around the 1st time, maybe i wouldve followed harry carey to the northside, since ignorance is bliss. too bad that was just before my time, i demand better baseball,******* **** this is the ALCS, the 1st one in my lifetime, not exactly time to experiment you ********.

It’s not the end of the world. We came out flat. I hope that puts to rest all that noise about the Angels being tired though. If that’s tired, I don’t want to see them when they’re awake. And if that’s a rested Sox team, I hope they become insomniacs in the near future. It’s evident those string of off days killed the momentum we built, but thats baseball.

The important thing is to shrug that loss off. We have to win four, bottom line. To do that we need to play flawless ball. We had a ton of mental mishaps and miscues out there. It simply won’t cut it against a team like the Angels.

Take that loss personal Sox. This team has now come into our home and violated us four games in a row. Enough is enough. You gotta go for the jugular. If that’s the best we can do against Byrd I shudder to think what’s gonna happen against Lackey.

Get it together quick Sox. This thing can get outa hand in a hurry. Stop the bleeding tonight and play like we know you can.

Relax guseric, the entire team played poorly yesterday. AJ should have been bunting in the 7th when Aaron was HBP. That entire 7th inning was disgusting. And why was it so hard for Pods to bunt, it looked like his first time, and then he struck out looking. Scioscia made a great call on that pitch out too. Jose threw a great gaem after giving up those couple of runs. Too bad he didn’t try to make the play at home in the 3rd. We’ll play better tonight and take game 2. Go Go White Sox!!

don’t worry — it’s all a part of the sox’s grand plan. my birthday is sunday and they want to win the series then for me.

WELL MANAGED teams know how to
1. bunt

2. hold runners on

3. run the bases

4. throw to the right base

5. read signs

it looked to me like the guys were trying too hard. they got away from their game of going the other way or up the middle. yeah we missed some opportunities, but i also think that for whatever reason, the angels intimidate our guys, and that is why we pressed. we’re still okay, but we need to get back to that fun approach that has worked so well for us all year.i never expected us to win nine in a row, i just hope we don’t lose four in a row before waking up again. let’s go sox.j.k. in ky. …

I’m wondering why Pods does a couple of things that Raines has not fixed:

1) His leadoffs are 2-3 steps short of where the elite base stealers of the past (Raines, Henderson, etc) started. He rarely has to dive back to first on pickoff attempts which means he’s not pushing the envelope.

2) He starts his dive into 2nd too soon. Again, the elite base stealers leave their feet later and end up sliding over the base sometimes to the point where their feet are touching the base after they come to a stop. On a bang-bang play that’s the difference between safe and out.

Lastly, he obviously needs to work on his bunting both for hits and sacrificing. With all the time he has spent in the minors I would think this guy would be so well-versed on doing the fundamentals, but he isn’t. He really needs to improve on these areas if he wants to be a long term solution as a leadoff hitter.

Trying to run on the catcher with the second best arm in the American League to Ivan Rodriguez? Questionable strategy, to say the least… especially since I think that Podsednik is still not 100% from where he was earlier in the season… Missed signs this late in the year?UNACCEPTABLE…
