Random Thoughts about Yesterday

As we (Commissioner Selig, Jerry Reinsdorf, Kenny Williams and I) stood on the field at about 12:20 yesterday, we discussed who was standing where and who was doing what during the ring ceremony.

I tapped Kenny and said.  "Stop for a minute and think about the conversation we are having right now."

AaronGreat to see Aaron Rowand, Willie Harris, Timo Perez and El Duque.  Great to hear the crowd response to the four.  It was bittersweet — there were smiles and tears — but it meant a lot to us to and them that they were at our ballpark yesterday.

After the game, employees received their rings from Jerry in a private reception.  Lots of smiles and lots of tears there as well.  So many White Sox employees have been with the team for decades, that this moment was so sweet.

Afterward, I took my family to dinner on Taylor Street.  A table of three Sox fans (all guys) sat next to us.  I was giving my wife a hard time, saying that a ring like this might get the attention of women at bars.  At just that moment, the guys at the next table leaned over and asked to see my ring.  They congratulated me on the season and thanked the organization for the great year.  Then they went back to their table.

"Yeah," my wife said sarcastically with a smile on her face.  "I am sure it will work with women, too."

Ring Raffle

See the site for more information, but we are going to raffle three authentic World Series rings for fans in order to raise money for Chicago White Sox Charities.  Sales begin at the ballpark and online, on April 14.  Tickets are $20 and we will cap sales at 100,000 (raising $2 million), meaning at worst you have three chances in 100,000.

This is being announced today.

That raffle is such a great idea! I hope there’s no limit as to how many entries fans can buy…

Those rings are def. cool as heck. I wonder if the site could handle tons of people logging in at once? And if there is a limit to how many raffle tickets each person can buy. Hopefully there would be to avoid the Ticketmaster fiasco during the playoffs last year!!! Though I doubt the ticket brokers would log on, though I could see some people with less than honest intentions doing so.

It is great to see that Rowand still has a good relationship with the organization as well.

GO SOX! Baseball is back!

I was disappointed Tuesday not to get a replica ring. We arrived 30 minutes before the gates opened and had no more than 500 people ahead of us but were shut out. And from what I could tell, we weren’t even close to getting one. It’s hard to belive that they passed out 20,000 in the first 30 minutes.

The World Series rings are really cool. Simple, but grand.

The replica rings could never compare to the real thing. They are cool in their own right. How could they look similar to the real things since no one was allowed to see the actual design outside of the Reinsdorfs & Jostens?

Can anyone tell me the difference between receiving a pendant vs. a ring? Is it a male / female thing? What do the pendants look like?

The raffle is going to sell out and quick! It’s a fantastic idea, and the charities are the big winners (along with the lucky three who will get personalized engraved authentic rings!).

Time for a day off to re-align and put another game in the W column Friday (for real, this time).

Go Sox!

I love my white sox, but it’s disappointing to get to the park an hour before game time and discover that not only have the replica mini trophies all been passed out, but the magnetic schedules were all gone, too!
Oh well, i was there for the game anyway, and while they lost, quite a few people stayed until the bottom of the 11th and the atmosphere was great.

Accept good advice gracefully–as long as it doesn’t interfere with what you intended to do in the first place. Do you think so?
