Honoring Robinson

Jermaine Dye wants to wear uniform No. 42 next Sunday (April 15th) to honor the 50th anniversary of Jackie Robinson’s debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers.  Other uniformed personnel have until the end of today to let us know if they also want to wear number 42 for the day.

Time Very Well Spent

After yesterday’s game was called because of cold and wind, many of our hitters came to the ballpark in the early afternoon to take batting practice inside in the batting cages.

Following the workout, Tadahito Iguchi made a trip to the University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital to visit 12-year-old Takuya Matsumoto, a Japanese native who was brought to UC to await a heart transplant.  Tad met the boy and his mom and sister.  After he learned that a fund had been established to help defray some of the boy’s expenses, Tad immediately offered a personal donation of $10,000.  To see a WGN TV story of the visit, click here (assuming the link works and I haven’t screwed it up somehow):

I saw Tadahito’s story last night on CSN. Good for him.

I’d say that this is our best lineup, well minus Vazquez. Hopefully it warms up a little before 3, I’d like to see a win today when you know your going up against Santana tomorrow.

How great was that! Not only visiting but pulling out the checkbook as well! Did anyone catch the playing conditions in Cleveland yesterday? Wow! Maybe it isn’t fair, but it seems like the first week or so should be played in warm places and domed stadiums. The weather seems to be a factor this early. Although we did have 70’s the week before the season started so I guess it is a crapshoot! Let’s hope a White Sox winner warms us all up!

Years and years ago, players such as Stan Musial and Ted Williams did thge same thing that Iguchi and the other players ard doing today, only there was no publicity given to the former…Oh,how I wish that thre could be some anonymous good deeds done by these players…no photo opps, just out of the kindness of their hearts…
Or, am I just too cynical in my soon to be old age?…

By the way, Donna(aka obrnmac), I did enjoy myself on Wednesday, watching the teams play “on the frozen tundra of the Cell”…(sorry, got a little NFL Films in me just then…)…and I see that the scheduled day/night DH in Cleveland for today has already been postponed…well, someone in a front office with eyesight AND brains functioning together at one time…kind of like last night here…
