Six guys were sent out prior to the game today:  Adam Russell, Ehren Wassermann, Gordon Beckham, Ben Broussard, Aaron Poreda and Eider Torres.

There were no lucky signs on the board yesterday.

Coxsie

This philosophical tidbit from 3B Coach Jeff Cox today:

“If at first you don’t succeed, don’t try skydiving.”

Spectacular outing by Colon. 4 1/3 shutout innings, allowed two hits. Fastball up to 91 MPH.

That was a nice little game today. I got to catch some of it. Colon looked good, Contreras looked pretty good…. Seen Betemit homer…. Thome gave one a ride… good stuff!

This spring training is killing me! Too long! Lets get the show on the ******* road!

I know Selig is an idiot, but why is there so much uproar over the WBC on here?

Whoa, looks who’s back!! Our dear scam! How’s school treatin ya?

I was totally anti-WBC before it began, but I’ll admit I’ve had a change of heart after watching a tiny bit of it and feeling all patriotic. I’m not saying all our superstars need to go, but I don’t think its so deserving of all the bashing anymore (even the bashing I gave it).

aw crap, double post. I don’t even know how that happened…

i dont mind the wbc…… i just dont want white sox starting pitchers on the team. I think it is pretty cool how the other countries react to it. Here in the US though, it will never replace the actual major league season.

Basketball and hockey have the olympics…when baseball was played in the olympics you couldn’t use pro players because of the MLB season… so I don’t think there is anything wrong with having a competition to put the best players from each country against each other…. as long as like i said….no white sox starters are on the team.

We all know that “Proud to be your Spud” (that’s Liptak, BTW, since he hails from the potato country in Idaho) thinks the WBC is a farce but good luck selling the “folks” from Japan and Korea on that idea. It was a fun tournament to watch and appeared to be another success at the gate.

And the U.S. players who participated obviously gave a damn since they felt slighted by the comments by Commissioner Selig.

Like I said before, it made a very dull spring a little less dull.

Oh, and Ames, good to see you off Facebook for a minute or two and back on the board. Get the others back now, ya hear.

Don’t you concern yourself with that, tc…
Once the bell rings for realsies (as Farmer would say), we’ll ALL be back…
YOU CAN”T GET RID OF US THAT EASILY !!!
That comment not only describes WS Universe, but, I think, was uttered by Charlie the Bartender at the press briefing for the football team that calls South Bend home…

One last thought…
If Derek Lee, who normally doesn’t say anything about anything, complained about the tactics for recruting of team USA… something’s wrong…

Sports Illustrated today (page 17) had a story on the WBC from a TV ratings standpoint.

U.S. ratings on ESPN were a paltry 1.3 – below that even for a national Sunday night broadcast.

The U.S. – Puerto Rico game in Miami had an attendance of 13,224 fans which is about 3,500 fewer than what the Marlins drew last season.

The TV rating in Japan for the WBC were 37.8.

Meaning NOBODY GIVES A DAMN ABOUT THIS FARCE IN THE U.S.

So if Japan and Korea want to have their own WBC, with their own players…great…go for it.

Just leave the U.S. players alone to concentrate on what really counts.

Proud To Be Your Bud’s made for TV event is a ratings disaster in the biggest market he needs to be concerned about…his own.

Mark Liptak

What ratings disaster? It’s either the WBC or more repeats of SportsCenter, more World Series of Poker or more over-analysis of the over-hyped NFL Draft which will bore us all in another month.

I’m sure that ESPN is pleased with the numbers from the WBC.

Face it Mark, you hate the WBC for one reason and one reason only. You hate Selig and you love to criticize him for anything he does. You ought to be a political hack on MSNBC or CNN or FoxNews and take verbal shots at the President and Congress. You’d fit right in.

Nobody put a gun to the heads of the players who played. If they want to participate, then that is their prerogative. If you don’t like it, just ignore it.

Back to more important things. I’ve been too busy to watch any games or watch for highlights. How has Getz played defensively at second base?
