I guess it didn’t take long for Ozzie to move Wise out of the leadoff spot. Interesting look to the lineup overall. I hope it produces a win today.

Last night was tough, but Floyd didn’t pitch terribly. Our bats were just nowhere to be found. But even though we lost yesterday, I did receive some great news. For my upcoming birthday, my wife surprised me with a trip to Chicago to see the White Sox play at home! It’ll be next month when the Pirates are in town. We’re making it a Memorial Day weekend vacation. I can’t wait to see The Cell in person.

Living in Virginia, I’ve only seen the White Sox play two times in my life, and they were both in Baltimore – once in the late 90′s and the last time in 2005. And we all know what happened in 2005. Maybe this will mean 2009 will be a special year as well.

Post Script: Does anyone know how to get paragraphs to work on this blog? Also, I’m open to any ideas of what else we should see while we’re in the city.

While last night’s loss was bad, I did receive some great news yesterday. For my upcoming birthday, my wife surprised me with a trip to Chicago to see the White Sox play at home! Living in Virginia, I’ve only seen the White Sox play live twice and both times were in Baltimore – once in the late 90′s and the last time was in 2005. And, we all know what happened in 2005. Maybe this will mean that 2009 will be a special year as well.

Sorry for the double post.

Josh: Have a great trip. You may want to take a ballpark tour at the Cell while you’re here. Should be able to find info on the Sox’s website.

For paragraphs, do three consecutive returns on your keyboard.

Let’s hope the change in lineup today sparks some offense.

I have been buried with work and haven’t had a chance to see a single pitch yet. And probably will not until at least Sunday.

But I am really looking forward to seeing Getz at second and Fields at third and see how they play.

I see that Wise has been dropped down for today’s game. My guess is that Ozzie is just trying to take a little pressure off him and will move him back for another chance at lead off when he finds a little groove and starts playing like he is capable of playing.

The grind has begun. At least 160 more. Will be fun to watch how things progress.

Yeah, who was it giving me grief about wanting to move Wise out of the leadoff spot? I never said to bench him, I said he just doesn’t have the OBP to be a leadoff guy. Three games into the season and Ozzie is already realizing that. Sorry, but the dude is a career .214 hitter. He has no business being in the #1 spot. I’m glad it didn’t take long for Ozzie to pull him out of it. I’m not saying DW doesn’t have some pop, but he can’t be relied upon in the leadoff spot.

You gotta give Grienke some credit. He looked good and won the pitching battle. Gavin deserved better cause he pitched a great game as well. AJ back in #2. Like the switch in the lineup. Hope that gives us a push today. I think we will come out better today.

Josh I agree with Maria about the tour. A great time, but I don’t know if they do them when the Sox are in town. Worth the call though. Enjoy your trip/game, you won’t be disappointed!!

As far as what else to see in the city, there is so much I don’t know where to start!! Plenty of museums, good food, Navy Pier, Lincoln Park zoo….I’ve got kids so I’m skewed toward family friendly but maybe some others can add other things.

Kevin, that was me. I wasn’t jumping all over you, I just said maybe we should give Wise more than one game to prove himself. That’s it. Hey, even TCQ and tc’s mancrush Alexei are 0-fers so far, though TCQ did get a BB and HBP last night.

Nice to hear they are pronouncing Alexei’s name right at the Cell now….Alex-aaay.

Josh, how did you become a Sox fan from Virginia? Happy to hear you got such a nice surprise from your wife! Definitely check out Navy Pier – see a fireworks show from there, take the Architectural Boat tour down the Chicago River, get to the Cell early and really walk around the whole lower level. Lots to see.

My son is going to today’s game. He’s grounded if he doesn’t bring home a W. Just kiddin’ Matt!

Kevin that was me. I wasn’t giving you grief, I just said maybe we should give Wise more than one game before we judge. TCQ and Alexei are still 0-fers too! Though, TCQ got on twice with a BB and HBP last night.

Nice to hear they are pronouncing Alexei’s name correctly at the Cell now…Alex-aaay.

Josh, check out a fireworks show at Navy Pier and also the Architectural Boat tour that goes down the Chicago River. Very nice. How did you become a White Sox fan in VA? Just curious…

Win this series, Sox. Note to KC: Put Farnsy in for the whole game.

Did anyone hear Hawk mention that Alexei now said it isn’t Alex-AY anymore. I think we’re back to good ole Alex-EE.

First of all, congratulations to Ms Wagener for her answer of Dick Allen… I had forgotten that… no great surprise there, is it?

As to the “ALISAY” or “ALEXI” non-controversy… I seem to recall when the current manager was a rookie with the ball club and soon-to-be Hall of Fame broadcaster Tony Kubek was working for NBC… They came in to do a Game of the Week, and he was wondering how to pronounce Ozzie’s last name… He thought it should be pronounced GEE-ZHEN… But it has been GEE-YEN ever since… No big, hairy godeala…

As to last night… This is going to happen to good teams as well as not so good teams over the course of a season… so to all the naysayers out there who are concerned with the lack of offensive punch…

You may have your opinion… but you want these guys to be robots, capable of destruction every time up… They ARE human beings…

I have said and written this before… and no doubt will say and write it again before all is said and done…

Just tip the cap to Grienke and the Royals… and go get after them today…

It’s a long way to October… just as it’s a long way to Tippararee…

Ooops. I was wrong in my earlier post. I will watch a few swings on Sunday but only during commercial breaks. You see, the world’s greatest sporting event concludes on Sunday and I’ll do everything in my power to watch it.

Short of the White Sox playing in another World Series, there is no better event in sports than the final round of the Masters. The first three rounds are great, but nothing tops the tradition of Sunday at Augusta. Gee, I’m kinda sounding like Jim Nantz now, aren’t I?

So, here’s hoping the bits and pieces I see of Sunday’s Sox win are the best parts.

You can pronounce A-Ram’s name any way you want. He is still THE MAN.

@Marie: It’s been a generational thing with my family, even though they’ve lived in Virginia all of their lives too. As far as I know, it started with my grandfather, but it very well could have started before him. He pulled for Nellie Fox, Billy Pierce, along with the other great 50′s Sox greats. My dad became a fan from him, and in turn, my brother and I became fans.

So, while none of us has ever set foot in Chicago (soon to change next month), we’ve been lifelong Sox fans, even though we’re hundreds of miles away.

-Josh

OK, can anyone tell me why Mike MacDougal is still on our roster?

Josh – good to see the White Sox are represented in VA!! Your dad brought you up right! Enjoy your trip while you are in town next month!

Tough loss today. There will be others just like it Boys and Girls, no getting around it. But to use the logic of one of our beloved members on this site, the Sox are done. If that’s true, then with similar records of 1-2, so are the Red Sox, Yankees and Angels, and the Rangers are THE team to beat this year with a perfect 3-0 record.

Puleese! That’s all there is to say about that nonsense. Sorry Commentator,er Lip, no offense meant to you, but back off a little bit. Go get them tomorrow Boys…. j.k.

I know these types of games will happen…I know it is early, but I expect them to win each game. Every game counts – have we all forgotten about last years one game playoff? If they had won one of those “off” days last April – no need for a playoff. I want them to win every game.

I’ll be the first to call Alexei Ramirez out. He has looked god awful at the plate this year. Wise has looked better than he has. That needs to stop. Fortunately he has looked good at shortstop. Yesterday that 2nd base ump must have been hallucinating because there is no way he lost the ball in the transfer. I started screaming at my tv during the end of that game yesterday- summer is officially here even though it is still chilly.

Hey Scott, I was wondering if there was going to be any video/tribute for Joe Crede on his return to The Cell tonight? If so, can you supply a web link for those who will not be there this evening? Thanks in advance.

weedenft: Freddy, old friend… Do you still work for Universal Pictures?

If so, I doubt that even THEY would believe a scenario for a baseball team winning EVERY game…

And to the others: As I wrote before… one game, or three games, do not a season make… unless they are at the **** end of the schedule… just ask the Twins last year, or the Mets last year, or any one of many teams that have collapsed right before they get to the finishing line…

With the warmer weather (from our mouths to the Almighty’s ears…), the bats will come alive…

Patience is a virtue which, unfortunately, is not being practiced any more…

Weeden: Freddy… what Universal MIGHT buy would be the White Sox version of the story of a pitcher who comes back from a freak injury to regain his spot in the starting rotation… and another pitcher trying to regain the form he had before his problems forced him out the last few seasons…

I am referring, of course, to the first starts for the Cuban horse (Contreras) tonight and Colon tomorrow…

If they’re successful… the training and rehab staffs should be up for the baseball version of the Academy Award…
