About Last Night

Sox have won three of four on this homestand … recorded our third shutout behind Gavin Floyd’s two-hitter … have won five straight interleague games and seven straight at U.S. Cellular Field … seven-game streak is club’s longest in interleague play … game time of 1:51 was fastest since 6/1/07 at Toronto (1:50).

My fried Israel del Toro, a Chicagoan and life-long Sox fan, sent me an email yesterday that reminded Americans just why we stop each year and commemorate Memorial Day.  His email included these cartoons, which must have struck him personally.  Take a look here:

You see, I’ve gotten to know DT through the Wounded Warriors organization.  I think I’ve mentioned him before, but DT was serving in Afghanistan as a forward observor with the Air Force when a IED destroyed his vehicle.

DT was badly burned over more than 90 percent of his body.  He survived — he’s something like fourth on the military’s list of most burned patients to survive, has undergone more than 100 surgeries to repair his wounds, and now is a motivational speaker.

He’s thrown out first pitches at our games and been honored at SoxFest.

Regardless of your politics, take time on Monday to thank and remember those who gave even more than DT in order for people all over the world to live in freedom.

My thoughts are with Ibis Guillen and her family as they visit the bedside of her father in Caracas.

Thanks for sharing Scott and reminding us once again the importance of Memorial Day. It isn’t hot dogs and outdoor cookouts. It isn’t Baseball or the Indy 500. And it isn’t a day at the beach. Then again maybe it IS all that, thanks to a Service Man or Woman. As the dad of two Men in the Army I thank you for the reminder. Take care all… j.k.

Ok I got 1/2 of what I asked for. I wanted a White Sox sweep of the home stand and a great outing by Gavin to get me thinking we can contend…… The 20 run bashing by the Twinkies ended my hopes for the undefeated homestand…but Gavin was outstanding last night. We cannot afford to lose a game to the Pirates. We beat their best guy…. Finish this off. By the way I like Ramirez in the 2 hole- I read somewhere that Cora made the batting order. Hopefully it works out and he can stay there the rest of the year.

Hey all! Glad to be able to watch my first Sox game in over a week. I was able to keep track of the scores while down in Texas, but that was it. Let’s win this one!

Another good job by Clayton so far. But we need to get him some runs. Can’t expect him to throw zeros up there every inning. How about a couple now in the bottom of the fourth?…. Go Sox ’09….j.k.

Half way home and it’s 1-0. Let’s make it 3-0 after this frame. What do you say? I say, Go Sox’09….j.k.

That’s our two. Thank you Alexei. Thank you Sox….j.k.

Just a quick comment as I’m watching the game on WGN. Richard is pitching his butt off and the homer by Alexei was very nice. Hopefully, this means he’s coming around. Keep it going guys. Go White Sox!

Good job getting yourself out of trouble, Clayton. Dare I ask for one or two more runs? Oh, what the heck, I’ll ask, hopefully we all will receive…… Go Sox j.k.

Ask away JK. You were right the last time, so I won’t argue with that.

Sadly, no reception this time. I don’t want to wear this awesome talent out though. Come on Pen… Go Sox’09….j.k.

I just love Thornton’s windup. It looks so effortless and suddenly there’s a 97 mph fastball. Let’s get some runs guys. Go White Sox!

Sox Pen: That’s the way to go, uh huh, uh huh, I like it…….Just one more?…… Go Sox’09……j.k.

Remember that Seattle gave up on Matt a few years ago. Great sign by the Sox and a good job by Coop “turning him around”….. Go Sox…..j.k.

JK, keep singing KC and the Sunshine Band if we keep getting innings like that from our pen. Atta boy Thornton!

Way to go JD. Now put the Bucs down…. j.k.

Fortunately for EVERYONE out there, you can’t HEAR my singing……..

I had a feeling JD was going to eventually connect on one tonight. And now a walk by Thome, let’s pick him up PK.

Interesting: the Sox text poll question was should they have the DH in the NL and it was 53% to 47% against. The other day, the D-Backs had the same question and it was 75% no……

And just like that, we WIN….. Now go for the sweep tomorrow…….Go Sox’09…..j.k.

And… thank you very much!!

I was surprised too that the poll question was that close. Personally, I think it should stay the way it is. While I am indifferent about the DH’s role in the AL, the lack of a DH in the NL gives us a look at how the game has always been played. Great win tonight guys. Let’s close out the homestand on a good note tomorrow.

Great to see back-to-back shutouts from our pitching staff. Richard looked solid in his last two outings. It was good that he maintained his composure with his name being mentioned in the Peavy deal. Alexei might be ready for a break out game with his two homers in as many games. I still want to see Sox hitters work the count more. It gets a little fustrating when you see one pitch outs. Go Sox!

Good win…nice to see Richard pitch well again and Ramirez hit a second homer. We have to close out this sweep tomorrow though. Go get em
