White Sox Volunteer Corps Event
Thanks to everyone who pitched in and helped at today’s second sold-out Volunteer Corps event. Over 80 volunteers joined Sox staff and Sox players Chris Getz, Scott Linebrink (and family) and Clayton Richard (and spouse) at the Greater Chicago Food Depository where the group stuffed bags of food for CPS kids in need.
Staff at GCFD explained that these bags were passed out on Fridays to kids who otherwise might go hungy or have their diets suffer over the weekend. Without our manpower, the goody bags would not be distributed.
We all were in awe of the size of the facility — not to mention its cleanliness — and just the scope of need in the Chicago area. The huge wharehouse is completely emptied roughly every 30 days.
