Buehrle To The Mound Again

Metrodome Start

Mark Buehrle takes the mound again tonight in his first start since Perfect-0.  Doesn’t Thursday seem like a long, long time ago? (or is it just me?)

Sports Illustrated hits the newsstands tomorrow with Mark Buehrle’s final pitch on the cover (courtesy of our team photographer, Ron Vesely). The story inside includes three shots of DeWayne’s catch and a great story.  Make sure you pick it up (or 10 copies) ASAP.

SI told me that images of the cover and story will be available on Facebook tomorrow, so check back here for links.

A former SI employee/Sox fan also explained to me that if it existed, SI jinxes only go into effect once the magazine is on the street, meaning Mark will be unaffected tonight.

For a great piece on Buehrle and all the unique aspects of his perfect effort,

If you didn’t get a chance to watch last night’s Top 10 list on the Late Show with David Letterman, click here.

Top 10 lists are often an acquired taste, so let’s see if the readers of my blog can top the writers from the Late Show!  Post your best Top 10 lists (keep it clean), but if you can’t come up with 10, offer one, two, five, whatever …

Thanks, Mark

We created a blog where fans can post comments to/for Mark Buehrle, write down their own experiences related to the day, or just share being a Sox fan.  If you want to post something or read the blog, click here.

I will be picking up a copy of that SI and anything else for that matter. Letterman’s top ten was great I don’t think I can add anything to it….

Hope this Detroit series and dugout awkwardness, helps get the guys fired up to play. Maybe a little mid season turmoil will help scramble things up in a good way… We’ll see….

And BA is gone. Where was Kotsay from before Boston? Was it the Braves or the Dodgers or what? Good luck to the fellas tonight, I’ll be watching!

Hmmm, one copy for me, one for my hubby who was at the game, one each for the two kids to have when they are old enough to appreciate it, and a couple extras in case the dog gets a hold of anyone’s copies. Yep, 10 should cover us all nicely.

I did stay up to see Mark doing the top 10. Some were fair, but the last one was the best and pretty close to Mark’s way of thinking it seems. It appeared that Mark liked the brother-in-law bowling a perfect game the best. Anyone know why?

I am also counting the days until no more games in the dump dome. Is it significant that the last game will be on my 19th wedding anniversary? Probably not but I am going to celebrate it just the same. Maybe I’ll bake a cake in the shape of the dome and demolish it. Or just paint a balloon to look like the dome and stomp it till it explodes. Or . . . Well, you get the picture.

May the baseball gods (and I don’t mean the umps) bless Mark Buehrle’s pitching performance once again. GO WHITE SOX!!

Mark Kotsay for BA straight up! I’d say we got the better of that deal, although both were in the minors, so we will see what happens. I agree with many others, that Kenny must have other moves in mind and this is just setting the stage.

Our team simply refuses to be “good”. If we could only stop beating ourselves on a regular basis we’d be 12 games over 500 and solidly in first place right now. There still is time for that to happen, but if it doesn’t we all thought (I did anyway) that this was a rebuilding year at the start. That said: play the best you can and see what happens.

Good luck to Mark (B) tonight we need a W badly. Another perfecto would be good though….. Ahhhh, just musing…

# 10: I wonder if I pull this off will Jerry let me tarp dive during rain delays again?

#9: Sure wish I was in St. Louis so I could HIT too!

#8: Dang! If I do this I’ll have to buy Ramon something Huge…. maybe I can get someone to hit it in the gap to left-center and save some dough…

#7: I wonder what’s for supper…..

#6: Ohh, look That cloud looks like a butterfly!

#5: If I could just stretch this out a little bit, I won’t have to change the baby.

#4: Oh Crud!, Now I’ve got to buy something for D-Wise too!

#3: Top ten list, but only 9 innings. Let’s see, 10 goes into 9 , drop the , carry the, I need a calculator….

#2: O.K. Is that Nix over there with the shaving cream?, Man that just burns my eyes….

#1: Now I’ve got something to come back with when my Brother-in-Law spouts off about his bowling!….

Go Mark, Go Sox’09….j.k.

Nice list jk. My dad didn’t care for the one of Letterman much I guess he didn’t know that i was just a bit. My favorites were #10, and where he said he’s leaving during the 7th inning to beat traffic.

I got here just in time. Let’s get a W guys. I think the Kotsay for BA deal was a good one seeing as how BA wanted out of here anyway. But, at least we get a dependable bench player……unless Kenny has something else up his sleeve. Go White Sox!

Gah, double postage!

I agree. I think JK’s list is much better.

Hands down, JK’s list was better!! :)

LET’S GO SOX!!!

33 up and 33 down….. I thought Crede was going to get the first hit off Mark tonight…. I wonder who it will be? Come on Boys. Start us off D-Wise…..

I’m speechless

Come on guys, let’s get some runs! Go White Sox!

JK, love your list! Ok, I have to address the BA issue. You know I was one of the few fans of his. I’m hoping for the best for him in Boston. (except against us of course!) so who is my guy now??? I’m liking Gordo more and more but need an underdog to root for.

I can’t wait till they blow this dome up. There is for sure some bad psych there for the Sox. That being said. Go Mark go! Let’s do it again!!

Donna, I am so with you on Gordon. I think that the closest to an underdog right now is Fields or Wise, since they are not the everday player.

Totally missed it. What did they name the baby?

Can we PLEASE get this man some runs!!!!!

Kris I’m willing to share! I think Fields may be on his way out. Not a huge fan of Wise so I think I might have to stick with the rookie. What was the Thorton baby name? Missed that.

Donna – – we’ll share the Gordo love….

Avery Annette Thornton!

Congrats Mark and wife!

Anyone else going through the roof?

The Twinkie fans are stomping like crazy. I don’t know if you can hear it on ya’ll’s feed as well.

Avery Annette Thornton is the name!

Josh, how about Southpaw?

Congrats to Matt and his wife… pretty name!

Here are my top 10:

10. Will I set a new speed record for a baseball game?

9. Do I get a big bonus if I pull this off?

8. Maybe I can make a habit of this.

7. This is almost as much fun as tarp diving.

6. Do beer sales drop because I get to the 7th inning so fast?

5. This isn?t so hard after all.

4. Good thing we got some runs, so I don?t have to keep this up for extra innings.

3. Wow, gotta get something really special for Wise.

2. My kids are too young to even remember this!

1. A shutout: great; a no-hitter: watches for everyone; a perfect game: priceless!

so, the blog is having some issues! :)

Early Winn…. Great name! Hold ‘em some more Mark… Our Boys will get you a run eventually….. Go Sox’09…j.k.

Kris, that got me to thinking, and I’ll open this up to everyone, but are there any good White Sox-related kids’ names out there? I’m planning ahead in a sense.

Congrats Mark! Keep it rolling along! Did you see Mark’s face on that last play? He can’t believe it either! He is so cute.

And, it was Joe Crede…I would have hated him if he got a hit.

well… I know of a few Cubs names that make me ill – – let me think on that

I missed what Matt and his wife named the baby. What was it?

Heh heh, MariE. I would have to hope he or she is lefthanded. :)

Thanks Marie. Yes, that is a very cute name.

That is pretty! Congrats to Mark on breaking the consecutive batters retired record!!

Congrats Mark on setting the new record for consecutive batters retired. Atta boy!

Thanks Marie. Yes, that is a very cute name.

Matt’s baby’s name is Avery Annette – – pretty…

Can we please score some runs???

You can put it on the board, YESSSSS! Atta boy Dye!!! Finally!!

Thank you JD!

You can put it on the board, YESSSSS! Atta boy Dye!!! Finally!!

Do we have to beg for them? Because I am totally not above begging.

Top of our order. Now would be a great time to get a run…. Go Sox’09….j.k…. Hallejulia…….J D..

Thank you JD!

I usually hate when Harrelson even opens his mouth. But that was music to my ears when Dye put us up. And, man, Buehrle is my damn hero right about now…..

Thank YOU!!!

Nice run by Mark. Now lets get down to the business of winning this game!

Do we have to beg for them? Because I am totally not above begging.

Pods should have had that ball. Can’t believe it wasn’t scored as an error.

Why wasn’t that caught!!!!!

Well, good job by Mark. No perfect game or no-hitter to follow up Thursday, but still a fabulous job. I will get back to begging for more runs.

Should still be 1-0…. Come on Boys, get this win for Mark….Go Sox’09…j.k.

This feels like another heart-breaker… I HOPE I’m wrong…. Go Sox’09….j.k.

I’m sick of this mode!!!

bright note?? Detroit is losing again.

Comeback mode yet again. Let’s hold em.

Detroit is losing, but the Twins tie us for 2nd. I just hate this Dome. On a positive though, thanks for the thrill Mark.

I wish they would let a White Sox fan push the detonator when it’s time for the Dome to come crumbling down.

omg, Josh, TQ and I were just saying the very same thing last night!!!!

Ugh, I can’t believe this from such a high to a new low.

The Sox should hold an auction for that opportunity.

Let’s get them tomorrow?…… Go Sox’09…..j.k.

Ok, Gordon gets my love. Thanks for keeping the hope for me buddy!

Maybe that can get us some “MO” for tomorrow night… Go Sox’09…j.k.

Well, now we’re only down by two. Maybe? Most likely not.

Oh, why couldn’t Kotsay have gotten here tonight? This is when we needed him. Tying run up, two outs in the ninth and Nathan on the hill.

It sounds old, but keep on plugging away. Only four more regular-season games in the Dome and we’re still just two back.

Buehrle again pitches his butt off, sets a major-league record, allows zero hard hit balls and ends up taking the loss. At the Metrodome, our left fielder (sorry Ames) whiffs on a catch, our second baseman runs to his right when the ball is hit to his left, a couple of bloops drop, our reliever can’t find the plate, and before we know it, we can chalk up another loss.

More of a Mystery House than a House of Horrors. Again, we have to salvage a game to avoid a sweep. But, in the course of 162 games, you can’t dwell on one or two or three tough losses.

Sounds like the new park in Minny won’t be one that favors speed. How about that? The Twins doing something to help us!!!!!!!

Brightside: Detroit lost again tonight so we keep our place. Downside: We now share that position with the Twinkies and now have to jockey for the lead. Just ONE win this trip would be a good thing, but I don’t know if Colon can do that. Maybe Richard could have, but that’s not a possibility since he’s back in the bullpen. All we can do is hope and pray.

Richard would not have been able to pitch Wednesday anyway, unless he were to go on two days’ rest. It’s either Colon or Contreras and Ozzie chose Colon.

Sure, every game is important but tomorrow’s game is not do or die. There are still over 60 games to play.

I don’t know why I thought Colon was pitching today; momentary brain fart. Just forget that part.

Quick question all, does the team still prevent ticketholders in the upper deck 500 section from access to the rest of the ballpark?

Punch-punch. We throw Jose instead of Bartolo. Punch-punch. They counter with Duensing. Punch-punch. We need to punch our way out of this Bag(gie) and have at least a little momentum going for us against the Yankees. We need to win this game tonight (in other words).

With Verlander going for Detroit I would expect the Tigers to win, but you never know. So, just win Baby, win! Go White Sox’09…. j.k.

Brett,

If you have a 500 level ticket you are not allowed to go down to the 100 level. They have people at each level entrance checking the tickets. It is the one and only thing I dislike about The Cell.

MariE

Ready for gametime folks!!!

Beer, check. Lucky rabbits foot, check. Sox paraphenalia around room, check. A White Sox Winner coming up, expected! Go Sox’09….j.k.

I don’t know how much patience i have tonight for this crap… I know it’s early but I can’t sit here quietly… the damn ducks on their pond need drowning now!!!

Okay fellow Sox bloggers, I am just checking in periodically online only (no radio or tv as of now) to get updates. I will leave it in your capable hands to get the series-salvaging win tonight.

I know, down 2-0 already, but maybe the tides will turn and we’ll be the ones to come from behind tonight.

Forget about the Dome curse and the ridiculous “House of Horrors” crap. It’s another ballgame on the road.

I thought that Los Angeles had the beach ball thing going on, but that shot of the out field stands was nuts. There must have been 25 balls in the air at one time…. Go Sox’09….j.k.

How old is this pitcher, like 10?

So, Kris, between he and Jose they must look a combined 80????

Hey, you guys got one back — I see Nix did — good job. We getting good starting pitching again. That is very encouraging in spite of being down 2-1 and having lost 5 of 6. The starters have been good in almost each game.

JK, you’re due for a big inning, aren’t you?

I don’t know if I can bear to watch tonight. I think that I’ll just follow along online and check-in periodically during commercial breaks.

Ok. I take that back. Heck yeah Quentin!!! But know he’s going at a walk. Not a good sign.

Holy crap (as Frank Barone would say to Ray and family), that was quick. I barely had the plea for a big inning off my keypad and CQ knots it up.

Well, Quentin’s still out there, so he must be feeling fine. Let’s hope it stays that way and Jose can hold them.

Awesome catch by JD!!!

Way to go JD!

ha ha tc, I just caught the Frank Barone thing… ****.. took me awhile..

tc. You missed the nice catch by JD on a sinking line drive off the bat of Morneau. That kept Span at second and Jose did the rest. Still tied going to the 6th…Go Sox. Now it’s time for a couple of runs……

I really believe that our team does not want to go into extra innings tonight, so we NEED to get some runs!!

Ha ha – Hawk just said he’d pay to pull the plug on that place!!! Maybe they should sell raffle tickets to do so!

I know, that’s what made me laugh about it tonight too!

So, what’s the scoop on this Kotsay dude… good and bad, I wanna know… tc, jk???

Lol, that’s what I suggested after everything collapsed last night.

thanks tc.. (she says sarcastically) i’m multi tasking like you are…

Ahh, great minds think alike. :-)

damn this thing is really flippin the posts around!

Okay guys, what’s the deal? You let the Twins take the lead on us. Now you gotta come back.

Kris, your reaction to the Frank Barone line was way too slow so I can’t put you in charge of the rally. It’s up to awgl or jk to get it done.

makes me dizzy (er).. anybody see my Kotsay question? Where’d JK go?

My last post says 9:15 and I posted it at 9:08. If only Ozzie could see into the future like the blog posts appear . . . . . . . .

kris, I think it like to do that to keep us on our toes and make sure that we’re reading attention to everyone’s posts!

I’m here. Just biding my time…. Go Sox’09……j.k.

damn thing isn’t taking half my posts tonight either!

Gah… painful to watch… Maybe it would just be better if I didn’t follow along and watched the rest of my program. Sounds like a plan to me. I’ll chicken out and check back in after the game.

Okay guys, how hard was the line out by Kotsay? Did it have a chance to fall?

Damn it all to hell!

oh crap… thought that would get sensored a little bit better

Hit it hard, but no dice…….. Now with Zero Momentum we come back home to face the Yankees and Angels. Here’s our season, Boys and Girls. There will still be 53 games after those two series, but if we fall three or four games below 500, you can put it on the board…..NO….. Come on Sox’09… Go team, go..

I hope Alexei is OK…… Manana mi Amigos……..

yea tc, it could’ve fallen, if jerkface hadn’t been standing right where he was and caught the damn thing…

It was right at Cuddyer or it may have gotten down. It was a rope…..

The bright news. Is there bright news?…. We lose 6 of 7 games to our chief rivals and only lose 3 games in the standings….. come on Sox’09…..

that’s our jk, always the glass is half full kind of guy… (sigh) just can’t go there with him tonight…

If the starting pitching can continue to be as good at home, then we will have a good chance to beat New York and the Angels.

Beckham continues to be a stud. Quentin is hitting the ball harder and got his first HR since coming back.

Those appear to be the only bright spots coming out of this series. As jk said, time to strap it on Sox.

We seemed to have finally started to play well at home during the last homestand so maybe we can finally start to have a homefield advantage.

Exactly even in wins and losses with 60 games to go. Need to win at least 35 of the 60 to have a reasonable shot and maybe even more. I still say that the Twins’ starting pitching will keep them from going on a big winning streak. Same with the Tigers. Plus, neither of them play well on the road.

It is an ugly division, but still a winnable division. No time to sit back and fret about this trip with two of the hottest teams in the AL coming to the South Side.

Way back in time, in the distant past, a long long time ago, (about a week to be exact), we were tied for the lead in the American league central and all was rosy. But now the black cloud of doom has descended once again over our fair city. One little ol’ week and the dragons are circling, breathing down their fire and brimstone, turning our vaunted(?) offense into a rabble of individual plebeians hiding from the hot breath of responsibility.

Oh where in this country is the one who will lead us against the upcoming enemy? Where is the Joe Hardy who will lead us to the promised land? Who will take up the lance and slay the Dragons of not only New York, but of self doubt? Will we be doomed by our self-destructive ways or will the dawn of possibility enter our psyches? We need only wait seven hours for the opening chapter of this epic drama to unfold……

END OF DREAM SEQUENCE….. queue reality……

Hi there boys and girls of Sox-Land….. What a bummer of a week! That wasn’t even a roller coaster ride, because except for one game the ride was ALL down hill.. Let’s recap: No wait, let’s NOT recap. I don’t want to dwell any longer on the past week. It is PAST! All we can do as good little Soxers and Soxettes, it to hope our offense begins to get some timely hits. That our defense wakes up and that our bullpen throws quality strikes.

At least we can leave our starting pitchers alone. They’ve been our sole bright spot for this past week. May that continue for many more weeks into the future.

I’m done rambling for now, but I just needed to put something tangible down that makes sense…. What? Dragons and obscure references to Joe Hardy dont’ make sense? Well neither does our lack of performance this past week. No where to go but (hold your breath) UP!…… Later all…. Go Sox’09…j.k.

I feel as though I’ve been abandoning you kids lately, but between my brother’s games, breaking the computer (beyond repair – its official now), and work, there’s been little time to post. But fear not, I’ve been faithful to the boys and have still been watching.

Scottie’s not playing tonight, Kotsay is leading off – sounds like a good night for me to skip out… to St. Louis!! My Cardinal red comes out this weekend, tomorrow specifically against the ‘Stros. Hold the fort around here, and I’ll see if I can keep the Redbirds in first place over our friends to the north. When I come back, I expect TCQ to be hitting HRs over the Dan Ryan…

See ya Monday!

Oh, Boy! Here we go again! We need to start a win streak of maybe three games or so. Let’s get back to simply WINNING series. Whatcha say? Go Sox’09….j.k.

Hi JK, and whoever else is here tonight!

I can finally *watch* some games on the teevee – MLB TV tonite, and WGN tomorrow woo-hoo!

Let’s hope I get to see the Sox *win* – that would be really, really fun!!

Go SOX!!!

Peggy

You gotta be kidding us NYC: the fact that he caught that ball preserved (not tainted) the perfecto. What about Wells and Cone? Did they rely on their defense or strike out everybody? Dumb comment!… Go Sox’09…j.k.

*stands up* I AM SPARTICUS!

Oh wait, wrong situation. Sorry about that, JK’s ominous speech riled me up a bit. Yes, last week sucked to say the least, but like JK said, all we can do is look forward and work hard to get the job done. We’ve got to grind out these last 60 games with the determination to get ahead of the Twinkies and Kitties. There’s only one thing left for me to say after all of this. Let’s get a W and Go White Sox!

Howdy gang!!! Texas is here! :)

Shopped with the brand new 18yr old today, exahausted, my mom is at the game tonight so hopefully she’ll put the ‘grandma whammy’ on the Yanks and bring this home a winner and a bday winner for the baby girl!!

My response to NYC should have come after his post NOT before….

Anyway you slice it, he gave up a fly ball that was OVER the wall. If it weren’t for Dewayne Wise, he would have given up a home run. I don’t consider that a perfect game. SORRY!.
-NYColeman
http://colemannewyork.mlblogs.com

That was close! I almost was slotted properly…. Maybe this time?

Rain, rain stay away – I want to watch baseball!!!

The last time my mom went to see them play they had a post poned game… what the heck mom!!!

It is currently raining cats and dogs here in Lombard, about 20-ish miles away.

well folks, we have a stalker…

Ladies and gentlemen, we have our first Yankee troll in our blog.

not really the first Josh, just the first this year… I believe one showed up last year… who knows… he just can’t remember the last time they had a perfect game so he had to come over and see what’ sgoing on over here… a lot of other blogs don’t have this camaraderie we do…

All I have to say is that I have to root extra hard for the Sox during this series because the president of my university (WIU, same one that my dad went to) is a Yankees fan. The school is making an alumni event out of it tomorrow (discounted tickets and such), but my dad decided not to do it.

Yeah, that figures. The Yankees are the only team I can’t find myself rooting for in any situation. And Mr. NYColeman definitely wants to make sure that stays that way. Anyway, I hope this rain lets up soon. I can’t stay up too late here on the east coast.

according to facebook, 8:15 start time if all goes well

Good start Gavin….. Go Sox’09…..j.k.

Alright, good start, now let’s get some runs. Go White Sox!

Atta boy Beckham! Go White Sox!

It’s real easy to see why we all like GB!!!!

All right!! Put a tally up on the scoreboard!

Just realized something the other day – Beckham is the Sox’s new “golden boy” (gb), and his initials are GB. Lol.

jk is full of poetry tonight!!!

JK’s a poet and I bet he didn’t know it. :)

Huh? /wassup?….j.k.

easy to SEE why we all like GB

Back to work Boys…. Go Sox’09…j.k.

Yes we certainly do!!

We need for our Big Boppers to start bopping…. Go Sox’09…j.k.

Now make ‘em pay!…. Go Sox’09…..

Let’s hope Quentin can bring out the big guns!!

U.S. Cellular…. The Yankees House of Horrors???????

Woot WOOT!! Atta boy Quentin!

I know jk. How many errors did they have in just this last inning? And how did we score in the 7th? Oh yeah… on an error!

Come on Matt!!!!

All right. Hopefully Matt can pull this off in half an inning, since Ozzie didn’t have Jenks warming up. Let’s see what they’ve got!

Alrighty then! One more inning to go for a White Sox winner….’09 style……

One more to go… Get Swish out!

One more to go… Get Swish out!

Dang, I think I jinxed it. Oh well, hopefully we can get this done in out half of the inning.

Dang, I think I jinxed it. Oh well, hopefully we can get this done in out half of the inning.

Dang, I think I jinxed it. Oh well, hopefully we can get this done in out half of the inning.

That’s curious… No Bobby. Go Matt go….

Sorry about the double/triple posts.

MAN!!!!!!! Come on Sox….. Walk off………

All we need is a hit AJ….. Go Sox’09….j.k.

C’mon AJ…

C’mon, guys, this is a winnable game!

We so had this one in the bag!

My oh my…. Thank you….Sox win……

Hecks YEAH!!! Thank you D-Wise and Scotty Pods! Another tally in the W category and we start this homestand off on the right foot.

FINALLY!

We finally won a close game! We finally scored in more than two innings.( we hadn’t done that since July 17 against Baltimore). We finally took advantage of our opponents mistakes. We finally had some drama that went the RIGHT way!

FINALLY!! Keep it rolling Team… Go Sox’09…j.k.

I made a point and the blog page refreshed it a second time. sorry about that….

I wish I was able to stay up last night for the thrilling end. Way to battle back in the bottom of the 9th and atta boy Wise for being in the right place at the right time yet again. Good start to the homestand, but two in a row would be much better. Go White Sox!

I forgot to mention I’ll be away this weekend for a family reunion, so I’m counting on you all to hold the fort against the Yanks this weekend. Let’s get Clayton a W tonight and Go White Sox!

PEAVY? who do you think will start tonite now that C Rich is gone.

PEAVY? who do you think will start tonite now that C Rich is gone.

DJ Carasco pitching tonight. Not sure how I feel about all we gave up for an injured guy who didn’t want to come here a few weeks ago. In Kenny I trust…..
