Tonight’s Lineup

Just Saying

If you happened by Bolingbrook Golf Course on Thursday — very, very early on Thursday — you might have seen the links grudge match to end all grudge matches: Harold Baines (unbeaten all summer) and Kevin Hickey vs. your correspondent and Mark Salas.

Well, by the end of the morning round — we teed off in the dark and into the fog — Salas was dancing a jig (“I saw that,” Baines noted) and we did not have to play the 18th hole.

“Go ahead and celebrate,” Baines told Salas, “You just went 1-20.”

“Yeah, but it’s good to go out on top, a champion,” Salas replied.

Because of a 10:30 am outing, we decided we needed to tee off at 6:30 am.  Only problem was, none of us Einsteins thought about whether the sun would be up by then! Add in the fog, and the first hole was played in utter darkness, low visibility and silence (we were the only ones out there).

Four hours later, a new champion had been crowned.

God save the king.

Pregame

Prior to batting practice, Jerry Reinsdorf presented Mark Buehrle with a specially commissioned ring to commemorate his Perfect Game this July (and he gave Buehrle a second ring for Mark’s dad). The team also presented Mark with a specially designed display case (done by our great in-house designer Gareth Breunlin) that included hand-written notes from his teammates and color copies of newspapers from around the country from July 24.

One pitch, one awesome catch by JD!

Getz-Alexei-Konerko. DP! Now let’s put some runs on the board.

Hey there gang! I’ve been watching and reading but the end of the season always makes me sad so haven’t posted much. Now that we are officially out *thanks Scott Merkin for explaining why when I thought we had one left, I can officially mourn the season that really has been dead for a few weeks in my head. I looked back when Scott had us all guess wins and we ranged anywhere from 85-95. Little off huh? The optimism of the season got to us all I think and if everything would have fell into place, just maybe. But over 100 errors? YUK and our bats falling and so many other things I won’t beat into the ground, but when I realistically look, we did what we could with a basically all new infield. It is what it is and I won’t cry over it, but will instead hope for a nice run hear at the end. Let’s man up boys and show a little pride to close it out.

As always I will be watching, but I trade in my buton up baseball for the pullover sweater on Oct 2–GO HAWKS!! Check out those boys on the cover of ESPN magazine!!! Ok back to baseball Lets go WHITE SOX! Give us something to look forward to for next year!!

Hi Donna. It’s going to be weird not talking baseball, or sports in general, with you all in the offseason. The White Sox are the only Chicago team I follow. I’ve got the Skins and NASCAR to tide me over until spring training, and it can’t get here soon enough.

Ugh, Bonine just struck out the side. Let’s hold em. Go White Sox!

Peavy-Alexei-Konerko. DP#2!

Bonine’s got a no-no going. Let’s go guys.

You can put it on the board, YESSSSSS! Atta boy Becks! Goodbye no-no!

Peavy is a strikeout machine tonight. 8 and counting. Go White Sox!

Josh you should come over to Facebook. It makes the offseason go quick! Peavy awesome tonight!! That’s something to look forward to next year. Gordon too. The future shines tonight!!

Heh heh, I’ll look into it, Donna. I never got into the FB craze when it first started. Then again, I wasn’t into MLB.tv this year either until ya’ll coerced me. :)

Amen Josh. That was a good game. What could have been if we played like this all year, ah well. If we can’t be in at least we can be spoilers!!
Come to the dark side Josh, first twitter, now FB! ;) You can put all the names and faces together and learn more about everyone through the off season.

And this ballgame is OVAH! Awesome job by Peavy and the bullpen. 11 K’s and no runs! Let’s take rounds 2 and 3 and end this last homestand with a sweep of the kitties. Go White Sox!
