Postseason Begins

Wednesday, October 7, 2009

Congratulations

To the Minnesota Twins on capturing the AL Central title in dramatic fashion last night with a 6-5 win over the Tigers.

As a baseball fan, I love the first days of the Division Series, with up to three great baseball games a day.  For me, it’s like the first games of the NCAA college basketball tournament, only better, because the games generally are better, more compelling.  The only thing that is better is when the White Sox are playing in October. Getting better but still not over it yet …

Mr. Hilarious

OK, so they are not words that automatically go together, but try “Ken Williams” and “improv comedy” in the same sentence. The Sox GM is helping out a very worthy local cause, Gilda’s House, by appearing in an improv show this Friday night. For information and to see who else is appearing, click here.

Postseason Brackets

Readers, submit your picks for this postseason.  Post your winners of each matchup, DS through WS.  When the dust settles after the World Series, we’ll crown a champion in some appropriate way.

I have to say I enjoyed being “tweeted” during the season because it made me feel more connected to my Sox even when I wasn’t able to check in here and despite the fact that I don’t know how to tweet back (if something like that is even possible). Loved having Pods back, Getz at 2nd, Beckham up, Mr. Perfect, AJ as always . . .

Good luck to Kenny doing stand-up. Wish I could be there but we’ll be enjoying the fall colors up in Wisconsin this weekend. (At least he won’t have to follow Ozzie, so he should do fine!)

Congrats to D.Wise on “The Catch” being picked THE BEST PLAY OF THE YEAR in baseball by ESPN!

Since everyone seems to be going the same way, I’ll pick the opposite and see what happens. NY vs. MN = MN, BS vs. LAA = LAA, LAA vs. MN = LAA, StL vs. LAD = LAD, CR vs. PH = CR, LAD vs. CR = CR, CR vs. LAA = LAA

Thanks for the behind-the-scenes about Kenny. Will there be a video for those who aren’t able to make it?

As for my bracket (which won’t be very scientific)…

NYY vs. MIN = MIN, BOS vs. LAA = LAA, LAA vs. MIN = LAA, STL vs. LAD = LAD, COL vs. PHI = PHI, LAD vs. PHI = LAD, LAD vs. LAA = LAD (and Thome gets his ring!)

Have a safe and fun offseason everyone. I’ll check back in periodically. Go White Sox ’10!

Cards over Phils. Yanks over BoSox. Cards over Yanks.

“Baseball” and “brackets” is a wierd combination as well, but here’s my input:

NYY vs. MIN = NYY, BOS vs. LAA = LAA, NYY vs. LAA = LAA, COL vs. PHI = COL, LAD vs. STL = STL, COL vs. STL = STL,
LAA vs. STL = I don’t want to say officially, but I think you can guess.

Jumping on late but I’ll play….
AL championship=Boston Yankees–UGH!
NL championship=Dodgers Rockies
WS= Yankees Dodgers
Champs-Dodgers

I’m even later, but I’ll offer my best guesses:
ALDS:
NYY vs. MIN > NYY
BOS vs. LAA > LAA
ALCS:
NYY vs. LAA > LAA

NLDS:
COL vs. PHI > PHI
LAD vs. STL > STL
NLCS:
PHI vs. STL > PHI

WS:
PHI vs. LAA > LAA

Hi everyone out there in White Sox World Blog-land. How are you all doing? Me, so far so good. If you overlook the fact the Angels won their series and the Dodgers won theirs. So I guess you could say I’m batting .500 so far this post season. But considering that the end results are most important, and the journey along the way is just for fun, I’m still in the running picking the Yankees to win it all. (I’m rooting for the Angels though, so I’ve got myself covered nicely). Enjoy everybody and I’ll see you later…… Go Sox’10…..j.k.
