Homestand Ahead

Relax.  Don’t Panic.

This research from Bob Beghtol, White Sox director of media relations:

As for slow starts, there is pretty much one every season for teams that had success when all the dust settled:

1. 2009 Yankees were 13-15 on May 7
2. 2009 Twins were six games under (56-62) on August 17 and won the division
3. 2008 Phillies were 4-6 and then 8-10
4. 2007 Rockies were 5-8 and then 18-27 and went to the series
5. 2007 Yankees lost 7 straight from April 20-27 to fall to 18-23 and were 26-31 in early June but rebounded to make the playoffs.
6. 2006 A’s were 23-29 at one point and reached the ALCS
7. 2005 Astros started 15-30 and went to the series.
8. 2003 Twins started 9-12 and won the AL Central
9. 2002 Angels started 6-14 and won the WS.
10. 2002 A’s started 19-25 and won 103 games

That’s just 10 recent ones, but you get the point.  Even the Winning Ugly Sox on 1983 were 27-32 at one point but went on to win 99 games and the division title.  And don’t forget that the 2005 Sox had a few rough spots as well. Everything is magnified early on in the season.

Hey – at least yesterday (Monday) we didn’t lose! ;-)

Haha, good point Marie!

In the gloom of despair about the way that this season has begun, a lot of White Sox Universe have been issuing declarations that “THE SEASON IS OVER”… “THEY WON’T WIN ANYTHING”… “THEY CAN’T HIT, THEY CAN’T DO ANYTHING”…

I would suggest to those people that they take a good look at the top of this page, to the information that Bob Beghtol gave to Mr Reifert…

And, if you STILL feel the way you did before…

YOU WILL NOT BE MISSED !!!

It hasn’t been pretty, but the season is still in diapers! Are people really jumping ship already? Still alot of baseball to play folks and alot can still happen. I think the frustration lies in the potential this team has that they haven’t lived up to up to this point. There have been glimmers though so chin up gang!

I don’t think it’s the 4-9 start that is the basis for giving up. It’s that the losses have been pretty pathetic and in line with the crap from previous seasons. Yes, the 2nd week is early, but when you see the same garbage after so many seasons, you tend to have a shorter fuse…. just saying.

Great win last night. Outstanding effort by Danks and great support by Paulie and Andruw. Speaking of, Andruw’s resurgance of late has to be one of the great stories in this early White Sox season. He’s the only guy on the team hitting over .300 (save for Lucy’s few plate appearances), and he’s 7th in the AL in HR’s.

Let’s take Round 2 tonight. Go White Sox!

Well, that was a nice game last night, wasn’t it? Here’s to number 2 tonight.

Boy, Sox fans sure seem to have gotten a little spoiled.

This from windycity1950’s post above: “I don’t think it’s the 4-9 start that is the basis for giving up. Same garbage after so many seasons? Well, in 2005 the Sox won a World Series title. In 2006, the Sox won 90 games in what was — in that season — baseball’s best division. I’ll agree that 2007 was a bad year. In 2008, the Sox lost their frontrunner for MVP with a month to go in the season and still won the division and then took a game from the eventual AL champs in the playoffs. Last year, the Sox were in contention until the final month.

Doesn’t sound like a lot of “garbage” to me.

Yes, the team has not performed well in the first two weeks. But it is not alone. Check out what the almighty Red Sox have done. And, of course, things aren’t any rosier on the North side of town. It’s a long year. Let’s wait until August or September to evaluate . . . . . .

yeah, I mentioned the Boston Red Sox and their record the other day TC, try reading before you start talking smack. And yeah the Sox did great in 05 and 06. But these guys have been having the same old problems since 2007, even despite the division title in 08. Still couldn’t hit good pitching in 08, just so happens everyone in the Central was worse, we got swatted out of the playoffs by TB easily. So yeah, same old garbage and the tweaks on the lineup haven’t been all that major and tend to be most considerably of an economic nature rather than talent. You can preach on ‘spoiled sox fans’ all you want. Doesn’t change the fact you shill for the organization for free. At least Harrelson gets paid for it….

I love how TC and Quaid feel they have the right to stifle other people’s opinions. Quaid, you get to dismiss folks from White Sox Nation? Is that a paid position? I happen to remember in a few of the past seasons, management kept “waiting to see what would happen” and they more or less waited all season. I remember Ozzie talking about needing one good run all season too. And I love the excuses about the Sox not hitting in cold weather. YET, TB can come here and make it happen. Hey, one bad game. It is what it is. But don’t mouth off to others if they want to say something within their rights. This isn’t your blog. Show some respect.
