Southpaw Needs Your Votes

So we are trying something fun with the Indians and we need your help.  During Wednesday’s day game (from first pitch to last), Southpaw is competing with Slider to see which mascot can generate the most hashtags, either #GoWhiteSox or #GoTribe.

For each hashtag tweeted by a fan, the clubs will donate $1 (up to $1,000 each) to Stand Up to Cancer.  And the winning vote in the Twitter battle will receive tickets and a pregame meal, courtesy of the losing mascot.

We plan on tweeting out some cool messages over the next two days to motivate the voting public, so check out www.twitter.com, @Southpaw and @InsideTheSox.

You also can watch the competition by clicking here.

We will tweet out “scores” of the competition inning-by-inning on Wednesday.

So here’s the official news release:

MASCOT TWITTER RIVALRY:
WHITE SOX BATTLE INDIANS VIA TWITTER ON MAY 26
Fans Compete for Bragging Rights
To Benefit Innovative Research through Stand Up To Cancer

CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox and the Cleveland Indians are giving fans and followers of their respective mascots Southpaw (@Southpaw) and Slider (@SliderTheMascot) the opportunity to go head-to-head on Twitter through a hashtag contest, as the two teams play each other Wednesday, May 26 at 11:05 am CT in Cleveland.

The team to receive the most Twitter hashtags, #GoWhiteSox or #GoTribe, wins. The losing team’s mascot will then have to pay tribute to the winner prior to games on June 4 or August 30. The losing mascot also will treat the fan who submitted the deciding hashtag tweet, along with three friends, to a pregame meal.

In addition, for each #GoWhiteSox and #GoTribe hashtag that is tweeted during the game, each team will donate $1, up to a total of $1,000 per team, to Stand Up To Cancer (@SU2C / http://www.su2c.org), a non-profit organization that raises funds for groundbreaking translational research to accelerate the delivery of new therapies to patients, getting them from the “bench to the bedside” as quickly as possible. SU2C brings together scientists from different disciplines across various institutions to work collaboratively — rather than competitively — at a critical time in the field of cancer research.

Fans are encouraged to re-tweet news of this twitter competition to anyone on Twitter.  The contest begins with the first pitch on Wednesday and concludes with the last out.

And remember, in Chicago, we don’t lose elections.  We win them!
