Top Ten White Sox Moments at Wrigley Field

June 11, 2010

Moment No. 1

July 1, 2006 – A.J.’s Revenge – White Sox 8, Cubs 6
Trailing, 6-5, with two outs in the ninth inning, A.J. Pierzynski hit a three-run homer off Ryan Dempster to give the White Sox an 8-6 win.  With two outs and the bases empty Ross Gload hit an infield single, and Jermaine Dye walked to set the stage for Pierzynski’s dramatics.  The game was delayed following Pierzynski’s home run after fans littered the field with garbage.  Bobby Jenks retired the Cubs in order in the ninth to secure the win.  Jim Thome, Paul Konerko (pinch hit) and Joe Crede also homered in the victory.

Very nice two-out rally. Go get ‘em Peavy, and Go White Sox!

Beckham-Alexei-Paulie! DP!

The dreaded leadoff HBP, lol. Let’s hold ‘em guys.

And just like that, a tie game. :(

Alexei-Beckham-Paulie! DP#2!

Atta boy Paulie!

Atta boy AJ!

I think I’ll keep you company, josh. Man, I am liking what I am seeing so far today! Maybe they’re riding off of the high from the Blackhawks parade/rally?

Hi Vicky! (I hope I got this right, I’m not used to all the name changes yet.)

I hope they are. If we can win the season series against the Cubbies, I’ll feel a lot better about this season.

Yup, you got it right. :-D Me too, and then I can rub it in my sister’s face (Scrub fan).

Heck YEAH!! Now THAT is how you beat the Cubs!

Eh, we’ll give them a few pity runs.

Sorry if it seemed I bailed earlier. For some reason, I couldn’t post to the blog. Great win guys. I hope we saved some more runs for the next two games. Go White Sox!

Who would have imagined that Ozzie would have been the “calm” manager yesterday at Jurassic Park at Neverland?… “Uncle” Lou went off like a bottle rocket before the game, out of frustration and realization that the handwriting is on the wall about his underachieving ballclub… and he decided to take off on Steve Stone, who has been through this crap before at Clark and Addison…

Meanwhile, as to “our heroes”, they FINALLY seem to be playing the way they should have been doing ALL SEASON !!!… and after the weekend in Wrigleyville, it’s onto Western Pennsylvania and our nation’s capitol, hopefully to continue to fatten up on the NL…

As Lee Elia once ranted : “I HOPE WE GET HOTTER THAN HELL, TO SHOVE IT UP ALL THEIR F***ING A***S !!!”

And Pierre just demonstrated a perfect steal! Come on boys, let’s keep thing hot!!

Oh yes, Paulie!! You could tell how badly he wanted a piece of that ball.

Great wins these past few days!! I wish we played like this against the American league. I thought I heard them say that Mark is now tied for the lead at 21 wins in Interleague play. Lets get the sweep on Sunday!!

Nice win today Boys……

Let’s see if we can keep it going for some kind of extended run, and get over the .500 hump……. Go Sox’10…..

Nice to see we haven’t given up yet……….

One more W tomorrow…… j.k.

And, just a FYI, our 5th Grandchild was born this past Monday night! Mom and Makayla are doing fine!!!

Her Dad is a Braves fan though, but I’ll be working on her when the time comes…. Go White Sox…….j.k.

JK – Congratulations on Grandchild #5!

I agree – great wins these last two days for our boys! Let’s get the sweep today and enjoy the day off tomorrow before heading to Pittsburgh!

And, as for you son-in-law being a Braves fan – that’s ok for now as long as they beat the twinkies, as they did last night.

Go Sox!

Marie

Hey Scott – are you going to have a Blog Night this year?

I apologize for not posting lately, but have been very very busy, a lot of catering and weddings. Congrats on your 5th grandchild, and things could be a lot worse than a Braves Fan (Cub). I will be pulling for a sweep today the first game I will be able to watch in a while. Go SOX.

Another defeat snatched from the jaws of victory. The sox ninth – absolutely PATHETIC!
Men on second & third, nobody out and alexi, not only fails to get the bat on the ball but strikes out on a pitch a FOOT off the strike zone. Then after walking our all-star cf, rios, PK can’t even get the ball out of the infield and hits into a force. The CQ weakly pops out. Game and winning streak OVAH. This team deserves everything it has not gotten this year. These guys are AWFUL!

Relax Buster. The Sox just won back-to-back series and had a four-game winning streak for the first time this season. Don’t let one poor inning — or should I say — two poor at bats (Alexei and Konerko) ruin what was a good week. And Konerko had a great series so I can’t get on him too much.

Now on to Pittsburgh to win another series. And then to DC to do the same. Inch up closer to .500 by the break and hope for a much better second half. With the talent level that this team has — which is the least it has had in Ozzie’s tenure and maybe since 2000 — that is about all we can hope for.

Sitting at 28-34 is about where this team belongs. I’d say more like 30-32 would be my guess but they are not far off from that.

Keep drinking the kool-aid TC. I can always tell when you miss your daily dose.

Kool-Aid?

Buster, I was actually more critical of the Sox than you were. I’m the one who admits the team is poor, while still looking at the situation with a sense of reality.

I’m the one who keeps my head and reacts with a realistic suggestion, instead of an angry knee-jerk comment like yours.

I’m sure my blood pressure is much better than yours too! LOL

JK – Congrats on the new grandchild!

I agree that we missed a big opportunity in the 9th last night. I know Ozzie was trying to go for the win, but I couldn’t help but think after the balk “why not try a squeeze here” so that we could get one run in to tie the game and still have Andruw in scoring position with only 1 out. But on the bright side, Lilly didn’t get the no-no. I can only imagine how Cubs fans would react if they had no-hit the Sox.

Let’s beat up on the Pirates and Nats in the next few games. And if my count is correct, I believe we’re next in line to face Strasburg. Go White Sox!

Hey TC,
I finally understand. You claim to be a stat guy so here’s an interesting one for you. In reviewing your blog posts for the last couple of years (the most recent notwithstanding) I note the following:
Fully half of your comments have little to do with the SOX or a recent game but rather are a critique of others bloggers’ comments. Hmmmmmmmmmmm………………………. I need to keep this in mind in the future when reading your posts.
BTW, my blood pressure is 92/70. You?

Josh,

I thought about the squeeze, too. But then I remembered that Alexei was at the plate and visions of him attempting to bunt in past situations went through my head. After envisioning that nightmare, I conceded to myself that swinging away was our best chance.

Yeah, it was a disappointing ninth but it was our BEST inning of the game. We got our only hit, drew a pair of walks, had the bases loaded and had the lead run just 180 feet away.

Before Buster throws more Kool-Aid at me, my point with the above paragraph was that our offense was non-existent again against a soft-throwing but smart pitcher.

But it just shows that no matter how weak the competition is, it is very hard to sweep a three-game road series.

I’m amazed this team is even 28-34. If they can get to .500 by the break and somehow finish above .500 and within 10 games of first place, Ozzie deserves an extension, a raise and a medal of honor for making chicken salad out of chicken ****.

Buster,

Just a little give-and-take. Isn’t that what “discussion” is all about? The exchange of ideas. Comments about what is happening. That’s the idea of a blog, right?
