Top Ten White Sox Moments vs. Cubs at U.S. Cellular Field

June 21, 2010

 #5.) June 10, 2001 – Alomar and Sox Hold On – Sox 3, Cubs 1

The White Sox held on to defeat the Cubs in the deciding game of the crosstown series at Comiskey Park.  With the Sox leading 2-1 in the seventh and Gary Matthews Jr. on first base, Sammy Sosa singled off Jon Garland to the gap in left center.  Matthews Jr. attempted to score on the hit, but catcher Sandy Alomar held on to a perfect relay throw from shortstop Royce Clayton to tag out Matthews Jr. despite a collision at the plate.   The Sox won for the 13th time in their last 16 games and improved to 11-10 all-time vs. the Cubs.  It also was their fifth straight series win and their 14th in their last 19 games at home.
