Top Ten White Sox Moments vs. Cubs at U.S. Cellular Field

June 22, 2010

#4.) June 28, 2002 – Call It a Comeback – White Sox 13, Cubs 9

The White Sox rallied from eight runs, their largest deficit overcome in a victory since 6/13/78 vs. Cleveland when they rallied from a 9-0, third-inning hole for a 10-9 win.   Paul Konerko recorded his fifth career multihomer game (second against the Cubs) and fourth since 6/11.   Konerko also posted his second straight four-hit game, going 8-9 with a double, three home runs, five RBI and five runs scored during that span.  His four hits (seventh time) and four runs scored (third time) both matched career-highs.  The paid attendance of 46,027 was the largest regular-season crowd in the history of new Comiskey Park.

Linebrink has absolutely no movement on his fastball. Hell, I could probably hit it. He can only be used for mop up duty to try to earn his big pay.

Well, he’s made this a save situation for the big guy. C’mon Bobby!

Attaboy big fella.

Seven in a row. 11 of 12. 11-2 in interleague play. Love those numbers.

Only negatives tonight — Linebrink’s lack of stuff and Alexei’s finger injury in the ninth. Alexei has to be okay. He is playing so well, both with the bat and the glove. This is the best shortstop he has played since moving to that position.

I completely agree tc! I did hear though that Alexei just had a split nail – thank goodness! Another tip of the hat to KW on the pick up of Omar. Having him on the field, I believe has completely contributed to the improvement in Alexei’s game. He’s an on field mentor for him and could there be a better teacher?

Well I sure am liking this ride we are on. I’ll see you all tomorrow!! GO SOX!!

Also thank you Brewers and thank you Mets!

Turns out that we needed 7 of those 9 runs. In any case another big W on the board. 4.5 games behind the twinks and on a nice roll. Who have thunk it? Not me surely, and I will happily eat crow with each successive win cause these guys are playing great. Best part is they are very entertaining to watch and really seem to be enjoying themselves. Geez, what a difference a couple of weeks makes. Keep up the great play boys and let’s get a series win tommorrow!
BTW, TC – on your best day you couldn’t hit Linebrink!

Hey Buster,

I’ll just do what Gavin Floyd did Friday night against Strasburg. Just close my eyes and swing. LOL!!!!

Linebrink would never have seen the mound if the lead weren’t at least five runs.

Great win yesterday, let’s keep it going. Last night we had our first sign that our little one is a White Sox fan. She watched the game intently, but would make a fuss any time the TV was blocked. I’m proud to say our little one rooted the team to victory! That, or she thought Chipper Jones was cute. I’d like to think it was the former. Let’s take round 2. Go White Sox!
