FORD C. FRICK AWARD – VOTE SOX!

Thursday, September 8, 2011

Major League Baseball’s Hall of Fame and Museum has announced the candidates for the 2012 Ford C. Frick Award for excellence in baseball broadcasting.  This year, our very own Ken ‘Hawk’ Harrelson and Ed Farmer were chosen to represent the White Sox, and Steve Stone was one of 15 nominated as an at-large selection.

Hawk, a beloved White Sox broadcaster for more than two decades, is a two-time Illinois Sportscaster of the Year and five-time Emmy Award winner. In 2007 he received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Comcast SportsNet Awards Dinner.  Earlier this season, the broadcast level at U.S. Cellular Field was renamed the “Hawk Harrelson Broadcast Level” in his honor.

Farmer has been a fan favorite on the White Sox Radio Network for 20+ years.  In 2004, he and his former play-by-play partner, John Rooney, were named best radio team in the American League by USAToday.

Stone, one of the most respected color analysts in the game, is in his fourth season with the club and was a nominee for the 2008 Frick Award – but he is certainly no stranger to Chicago baseball.  Prior to joining the White Sox in 2008, he spent 20 seasons in the Chicago Cubs broadcast booth.

Fans can determine three of the 10 names on the ballot for the Frick Award, so please visit the Hall of Fame’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/baseballhall (one vote per day limit) to vote for Hawk, Farmer and Stone between now and September 30th.  Results from the fan voting will be announced on Oct. 5, and the winner will be honored in Cooperstown during Hall of Fame Weekend July 20-23, 2012.

Let’s once again get behind our own – just as we did a few months ago with the Paul Konerko “Paul-Star” Final Vote campaign – and do everything we can to help Hawk, Farmer and Stone earn their place on the ballot toward Cooperstown!
