White Sox 3, Rockies 1
Chris Sale was in fine regular season form this afternoon. In his first five innings of work against Colorado at Camelback Ranch-Glendale he gave up only one hit (a single to Sox nemesis Mike Cuddyer) while striking out a pair. He gave up a solo homer and a single to start the sixth before Nate Jones came on in relief to close out the inning. Erik Johnson pitched two scoreless innings–the seventh and eighth–and Ramon Troncoso pitched a scoreless ninth for the save.
The White Sox scored their runs on a second-inning homer by Paulie, his fifth of the spring, an RBI single by Beckham in the third and a run-scoring double by Drew Garcia in the eighth. Once again the Sox were in double figures in the hit department with 10.
The Sox are now 8-5-2 this spring.
Following today’s game, the Sox made the following 10 roster moves:
* Optioned RHP Simon Castro and LHP Santos Rodriguez to Class AAA Charlotte.
* Optioned RHP Nestor Molina to Class AA Birmingham.
* Reassigned OF Stefan Gartrell, RHP Erik Johnson, INF Seth Loman, INF Marcus Semien, LHP Scott Snodgress, OF Trayce Thompson and OF Keenyn Walker to minor-league camp.
* With the moves, the White Sox have 45 players remaining in major-league camp: 23 pitchers, four catchers, 11 infielders and seven outfielders.
The happiest guy in White Sox camp at 7:00 a.m. today was Sox trainer and native of The Netherlands, Herm Schneider.
As I came into the training room to run on the treadmill, I flicked on the television to Cuba vs.The Netherlands, ninth-inning, bases loaded.
With me, Hermie and Robin Ventura watching, The Netherlands scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly to center field and advanced to the semi-finals of the World Baseball Classic.
“Go Dutch!” Schneider cheered with a big smile on his face.
Interesting piece by Scott Merkin on whitesox.com. It’s a closeup look at the Sox’s 2012 No.1 draft pick, outfielder Courtney Hawkins, and his motivation to get to the big leagues as quickly as possible.
Quote of the Day
There’s no specific quote to report, but you can rest assured that there were some priceless observations during this morning’s conversation on the back fields between Hawk Harrelson (pictured below on the left) and Art “Cave” Kusnyer.
Play of the Day
Sale’s outstanding performance.
Off-day. On Wednesday, White Sox vs. Indians at Camelback Ranch (3:05 p.m., Chicago time). Scheduled starters are the Sox’s Andre Rienzo, who is back from pitching for Brazil in the WBC, and the Tribe’s Ubaldo Jimenez.
Did You Know…
…that reliever Brian Omogrosso hasn’t allowed an earned run in 7 2/3 innings in six appearances and teammate Nestor Molina hasn’t allowed a run in four innings of work?

Captain Konerko signed for his fans–then went out and smashed a homer against the Rockies.
