Play of the Day

Hector Santiago was outstanding in last night’s 2-1 loss to the Tigers, giving up just two runs and six hits with seven strikeouts in seven innings. His ERA now stands at an impressive 3.28.

The Future

Two of the Sox’s recent acquisitions, Avisail Garcia and Brandon Jacobs, had games to remember last night. Playing centerfield in his first start at Class AAA Charlotte, Garcia went 3-4 with a two-run homer, four RBI, two runs scored and a walk. Jacobs, stationed in leftfield for Class AA Birmingham, homered and has now collected a hit in each of his 16 games since joining the Barons, hitting .311. Garcia, of course, came from Detroit in the three-way Jake Peavy trade while Jacobs was obtained from Boston for Matt Thornton.

Here’s more on Garcia as his former All-Star teammate Torii Hunter raves about Avisail in this story from today’s Trib by Mark Gonzales.
