The surgery went as expected and the estimated recovery time is 2-3 months…Prior to tonight’s game, the Sox reinstated RHP Ramon Troncoso from the 15-day disabled list. Troncoso had been on the DL since August 17 with Pericarditis, which is inflammation of the tissue around the heart.
Birmingham Wins Game 1 of Playoffs
The Birmingham Barons, the Sox’s Class AA affiliate, won the opening game in the Southern League North Division playoffs last night, defeating Tennesee (a Cubs affiliate), 3-1, at Regions Field in Birmingham. Two outstanding Sox prospects, Chris Bassitt and Trayce Thompson, carried the day for the Barons.
RHP Bassitt, the starter who is headed to the Arizona Fall League, was dominant. He gave up just one run on three hits and struck out nine over seven innings. Outfielder Trayce Thompson broke a scoreless tie with a third inning homer and delivered an RBI single in the fifth.
RHP prospect Chris Beck (2-2, 2.89) will be on the mound tonight for the Barons in Game 2 of the best-of-five series.
