Play(s) of the Day
Dayan Viciedo’s solo homer (No. 14) tied the score at 3-3 in the top of ninth and Alejandro De Aza’s solo blast (No. 17) three batters later gave the Sox a 4-3 lead before we endured the heartbreaking 5-4 walk-off defeat with two outs in the bottom half of the inning last night in Cleveland…Hector Santiago delivered a quality start, allowing three runs, six hits and a pair of walks in 6.1 innings.
Jeff Keppinger will undergo right shoulder surgery tomorrow. Robin explained:
“It wasn’t continuous where he couldn’t use it. It kept bothering him over the course of the year. Hitting-wise he was fine, but any time you put him out there in the field for an extended period of time it would start to creep up on him. Clean it up, and make sure he’s ready to go in spring training.”
White Sox vs. Royals at U.S. Cellular Field (7:10 p.m., CT, CSN) in the opener of a four-game series that will end the regular season. Starters: RHP Andre Rienzo (2-2, 5.04) for the Sox, RHP Jeremy Guthrie (14-12, 4.09) for Kansas City.
Did You Know…
…that De Aza’s homer last night tied him with Ray Durham (17 in 2000) for the 2nd most by a White Sox leadoff hitter in team history? Durham’s 19 home runs in 1998 ranks first on the list.
