At Camelback Ranch-Glendale…
Diamondbacks 6 10 1
White Sox 4 11 0
Plays of the Day
2B Carlos Sanchez (now batting .545 with four RBI and two stolen bases over six games), SS Alexei Ramirez and OF Jordan Danks each collected a pair of hits and drove in a run today with OF Alejandro De Aza adding an RBI with a single…Ramirez and OF Avi Garcia each tripled…3B Conor Gillaspie was impressive in the field–one great diving play to his left, one to his right. One of them saved RHP Mitchell Boggs‘ perfect sixth…RHP Jose Quintana left the game after two batters. He was hit on the leg by a comebacker, has a left-shin contusion and is day-to-day…RHP Andre Rienzo relieved Quintana and in 3.0 IP gave up a run, a couple of hits and an impressive five strikeouts…RHP Nate Jones made his first appearance of the spring and pitched a scoreless fourth…with a perfect seventh today, LHP Donnie Veal has made four straight scoreless appearances (4.0 IP)…RHP Frank De Los Santos pitched an unblemished eighth.
Sox Notes of Note
Reliever Ronald Belsario, whose arrival to spring training was delayed because of visa issues, is now in camp. Belisaro, a RHP, spent four seasons with the Dodgers and was signed as a free agent during the offseason. Pitching coach Don Cooper said it is obvious that he has been throwing in Venezuela and will throw a bullpen on Monday and maybe pitch in a game by Wednesday or Thursday…RHP Matt Lindstrom has been shut down for a couple of days as a precaution due to continuing oblique problems…RHP Daniel Webb, who was absent from camp for a few days for family reasons, threw a sideline session yesterday. He is expected to make his Cactus League (CL) debut tomorrow against the A’s…RHP Zach Putnam has thrown three scoreless innings in his three CL appearances…1B/DH Adam Dunn is hitting .500 (4-8) with a pair of RBI in his last three spring games…The Sox and Indians are set to play a “B” game on Tuesday in Goodyear. RHP Chris Beck, LHP Scott Snodgress and RHP Omar Poveda are the Sox’s scheduled pitchers.
Baseball Writer Jon Heyman: The Chairman and the Skipper are a Perfect Match
Quote of the Day
Sox Director of Player Development Nick Capra on last year’s No. 2 draft pick, 19-year-old righthanded pitcher Tyler Danish (compliments of CSN’s Dan Hayes):
“For being that young, he’s got a lot of poise. He has a plan when he takes the mound, he executes his plan pretty well. For a young kid that locates his pitches as well as he does, it’s impressive.”
White Sox vs. A’s at Phoenix (3:05 p.m., CT). Starters: RHP Erik Johnson for the Sox, RHP Dan Straily for Oakland.
