There’s Nothing Like it
Nate Jones talks to @scottmerkin of mlb.com about his first Opening Day.
The Sox have expanded the team’s social media efforts to include Snapchat as a means of sharing a behind-the-scenes look at U.S. Cellular Field, as well as access to contests and promotions. Fans can follow the club now under the username “whitesox” to see the unveiling of the first Snapchat Story this Monday on Opening Day.
Snapchat is a messaging application that allows users to share of photo or video messages to followers for specific time lengths. The White Sox will use the Snapchat Stories function to share inside access with the team’s fans, which will be available for 24 hours. White Sox fans must first download the Snapchat application to their mobile device or tablet, then follow “whitesox” on Snapchat, in order to receive information and engage with the team account.
Snapchat joins a list of seven other social media platforms currently used by the White Sox: Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, Instagram, Vine and Tumblr. Fans are encouraged to share their game experiences throughout the season and visit the #SoxSocial Lounge at U.S. Cellular Field. The White Sox were the first team in Major League Baseball to open an in-park lounge dedicated solely to social media in 2013. So How Busy Is Roger Bossard?
Last week, my phone rang in the middle of the night, 3:50 am to be exact.
“Hello,” I mumbled, half awake. (I had one kid in Costa Rica, one son alone in Chicago and another daughter across town at the Phoenician with friends, so of course I answered).
“Hey Scottie,” came the quick, familiar clipped reply. “When you see Rick can you tell him …”
“Roger?” I asked, dazed.
“Do you know what time it is?”
“Sure, it’s 6 a.m. here and you’re two hours different …”
“Two hours BEHIND!” I respond. “It’s 4 am here!”
“Oh … sorry. But can you tell Rick …”
Payback, as they say, is a ….

Spring Training Dining Updates
I’ve fallen behind on my dining updates, but recently we hit The Salty Sow (great ambiance, great service, great appetizers, great drinks, average dinner), Richardson’s (for the third time this spring) and last night Chelsea’s Kitchen, where you are always certain to see baseball front office people … last night it was the Milwaukee Brewers and a certain, well-decorated White Sox veteran who claims it was his first trip to the terrific restaurant despite living in the Valley for 25 years.
Everything on the menu at Chelsea’s is terrific, with huge recommendations for the ceviche app, deviled eggs, brussel sprouts salad, spare rib tacos, swordfish tacos, poblano pepper burger, kale and quinoa salad, and the list goes on … it is my kids’ favorite restaurant in Phoenix and one we hit time and again each spring. The only complaint is often the wait. And if you go, do not miss the often warm chocolate chip cookies at the exit.
I’m hungry just writing this and sad I only have one more night to dine in the Valley.

One GM to Gammons about Johnson and the Sox future:
“Think about an infield in 2016 with Jose Abreu, Johnson, Tim Anderson (last year’s No. 1 draft pick) and Matt Davidson. The White Sox will be back in a hurry.”
