Say It Ain’t So
Avi Garcia will miss the remainder of the season with a torn labrum in his left shoulder suffered yesterday attempting to make a diving catch in the sixth inning against the Rockies. Garcia is scheduled to undergo surgery within the next week at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. Replacing Garcia on the roster is OF Jordan Danks.
“It’s a lousy day,” Sox GM Rick Hahn said today, referring to Garcia’s injury. “One of the cruel realities of sports.” Hahn also revealed that Avi is crushed after hearing the bad news, but indicated that he’s still very much a part of the Sox future and should be ready for spring training next year.

Quotes of the Day
From yesterday’s pre-game interview with Abreu, who has often spoken about the influence of his mother:
Q: How often do you speak with your mother?
Abreu: Every day. I speak with her. I just talk with her today a little bit ago. She said congratulations on your performance last night. I said no, thank you for allowing me to be here and to be able to do that.
Q: Obviously we are all close to our mothers and we love our mothers. What is it about your relationship with your mother that is special to you?
Abreu: It is a beautiful thing. It is a beautiful relationship we have. I do have a good relationship with my dad, as well. Sometimes he does get jealous because, well, you know. But I think my mom is only one in the world. It is just the part where you can always talk to her and tell you how you feel, whether it’s good or whether it’s bad. And she’s always there for you. That’s the part that really makes it special to me.
Q: What is your father’s name?
Abreu: Jose Oriol Abreu
Q: What is your mother’s name?
Abreu: Daisys Correa
Q: What is the best piece of advice she gave you before you came here?
Abreu: She tells me the same thing all the time. That is – to be a better person. If you are a good person every day, then things are going to happen for you.
Q: How far off is it until your parents might be able to watch you on the field, in person?
Abreu: Right now I don’t really know exactly when they will be coming. I left that in God’s hands. But the day that they are here will be an unbelievable day. It will be one that we’re going to share together.
