Plays of the Day
Dayan Viciedo went 4-4 and tied a career high with the four hits in last night’s Sox 8-6 loss to the Tigers, a game in which we rallied and had the tying run at the plate in the ninth in the person of Alexei Ramirez…Jose Abreu went 2-3 with his sixth home run and 19th RBI…Ramirez singled twice and drove in a run…During the ninth inning rally, Paul Konerko collected an RBI single and Adam Dunn connected for a two-run homer, his fourth of the year.
Here’s Jose’s solo blast:
Sox Notes of Note
Viciedo and Ramirez rank 1-2 in batting average among all American League hitters. Dayan (.361) is hitting .429 in his last nine games and Alexei (.357) has hit safely in 20 of 21 games this season…Fellow Cuban Abreu is tied for second in the AL in both home runs and RBI and ranks third in slugging percentage (.580)–but that’s not all. Here are a few of his other accomplishments: Jose is the first player in Sox history to hit six homers in his first 21 games. His 14 RBI through 10 games were the most by a White Sox player since rookie Ron Kittle had 14 in 1983. Abreu is only the third player in major-league history with two multi-homer games and he’s the first rookie in franchise history with two four-plus RBI games within his first eight major-league contests. Additionally, Jose is the first major-league player with a two intentional-walk game (April 2) within his first two major league games since 1955.
