This Afternoon’s Game
White Sox vs. Tigers at Comerica Park (12:08 p.m., CT, CSN) in the finale of the four-game series. The Sox have won two of the first three. Starters: LHP Jose Quintana (1-1, 3.75) vs. RHP Max Scherzer (1-1, 2.33).
Sox Starting Lineup: Jor. Danks CF, Semien 3B, Abreu 1B, Dunn DH, Viciedo RF, Ramirez SS, De Aza LF, Beckham, 2B Flowers C, Quintana P.
Plays of the Day
Marcus Semien put the Sox ahead 6-4 in the seventh inning last night–a lead that happily held up–with the first grand slam home run of his career and third homer of the season (all three have given the Sox the lead in the seventh inning or later, a feat no other player has done this season). He also has a bases-loaded triple…for the second straight night, Jose Abreu blasted a first-inning homer over the center field wall at Comerica. The two-run shot last night, Jose’s seventh homer of the season, brought his RBI total to 21…Andre Rienzo went 6.1 innings and got credit for the win, shutting out the Tigers in five of those frames. All four of the Tigers’ runs came off of Rienzo in the fourth…In relief, Scott Downs struck out the only batter he faced, Ron Belisario pitched a perfect 1.1 innings (he has thrown five shutout innings in his past three outings) and Matt Lindstrom came on in the ninth to earn his third save.
Enjoy Semien’s grand slam and Abreu’s mammoth homer:
Beckham is Back
The Sox returned second baseman Gordon Beckham from his injury rehabilitation assignment at Class AA Birmingham and reinstated him from the 15-day disabled list.
Beckham takes the roster spot of left-handed pitcher Charlie Leesman, who was optioned to Class AAA Charlotte following last night’s game. Gordon opened the season on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left oblique and appeared in 12 games with Birmingham on his rehab assignment.

Baseball people talking about Jose Abreu, and the sound he has when the ball hits the bat. Only the special ones have it.—
