Plays of the Day

Gordon Beckham drove in two runs, Jose Abreu collected a pair hits and an RBI and Conor Gillaspie and Adam Eaton both tripled and scored in the Sox’ 4-3 loss to the Twins. Scott Carroll tossed 3.2 scoreless innings in relief of starter Andre Rienzo.

Sox Pride

White Sox Amateur City Elite (ACE) product Ro Coleman (second from left) joins in on the celebration last night as his Vanderbilt Commodores moved to the finals of the College World Series for the first time in their history. Vandy, which won on a walkoff bases-loaded infield single in the bottom of the 10th inning for a 4-3 win over Texas, now faces Virginia in the best-of-three series in Omaha beginning tomorrow night.

Coleman, a switch-hitting freshman outfielder, walked in his lone plate appearance last night. He hit a walkoff single in Vanderbilt’s 3-2 victory over Oregon in Regional play that sent the ‘Dores to the Super Regionals.

Memories

Happy Birthday No. 36 to former White Sox infielder/outfielder Willie Harris, who scored the winning run on Jermaine Dye’s single in the decisive Game 4 of the 2005 World Series. Not only was it the winning tally, but the only run in our 1-0 triumph that completed the sweep and gave us the championship.

Quote of the Day

Assistant General Manager Buddy Bell on Special Assistant to the GM Jim Thome, who recently spent time working with Sox third base prospect Matt Davidson at Class AAA Charlotte.

“Jimmy is really good at just making you feel better about yourself. Sometimes that’s all you really need. Just the energy Jimmy gives a player is more important than any mechanical change. Matty just got himself in a situation where like a lot of other Triple-A guys, they just want to get to the big leagues so bad that you start doing some things out of character on a mechanical basis…”

Tomorrow’s Schedule
