Off-Day today. It will be the White Sox vs. Mariners tomorrow night at U.S. Cellular Field (6:10 p.m., CT, CSN) in the opener of a three-game holiday weekend series. Starters: LHP Chris Sale (7-1, 2.30) for the Sox, LHP Roenis Elias (7-6, 3.96) for Seattle.
Plays of the Day
Pinch-hitter Leury Garcia delivered the clutch walk-off hit last night with an opposite field single in the bottom on of the ninth to give the Sox a dramatic 3-2 win over the Angels in the finale of the three game series…Alexei Ramirez, playing in his 1,000th game for the Sox, singled home the first two Sox runs with a fourth-inning single…while he was denied his eighth win, John Danks was superb as he allowed just two runs, seven hits and a walk while tying a career high of 10 strikeouts in 7.2 innings of work. He is 4-1 with a 3.20 ERA in his last six starts…Zach Putnam, who came on in relief of Danks, tossed a scoreless 1.1 IP with a pair of strikeouts for his third win of the season.
The Streak Continues
Jose Abreu, the newly-crowned American League Rookie of the Month for June, extended his hitting streak to 17 last night with his eighth-inning single, matching Ramirez for the club high this season. During the streak he’s batting .343 with seven home runs.

Quite A Night
Outfielder Jared Mitchell had a career night for the Class AA Birmingham in last night’s 7-6 Barons victory over Chattanooga. Mitchell went 4-5, slamming two homers and two triples for a whopping 14 total bases.
Daniel Webb’s Bittersweet Rookie Season
I’ll share more about my trip to the DR in tomorrow’s post.
Quote of the Day
Why have Garcia pinch-hit in the ninth? Robin answers…
“I think he was surprised in that spot to be pinch-hitting, but he’s going to make some contact. … That’s a part of the game where you’re really looking at contact, the way the field was, the conditions and everything.”
