He deserves a mention here, so here it is:
Quote of the Day
During the Legends of the Game Roundtable in Cooperstown yesterday, Frank Thomas was asked who among the Hall of Famers he most enjoyed spending time with over Induction Weekend. He answered without hesitation, “Hank Aaron,” and added that Aaron was Frank Sr.’s favorite player. “My Dad used to say to me, ‘You’re pretty good, but you’re no Hank Aaron.'”
White Sox vs. Tigers at Comerica Park (6:08 p.m., CT, CSN). Starters: RHP Hector Noesi (5-6, 4.37) for the Sox, RHP Max Scherzer (12-3, 3.37) for Detroit.
Photo of the Day
One of our special guests in Cooperstown for Induction Weekend was Jeff Torborg, who was the manager of the White Sox when The Big Hurt made his debut.
Baseball fans will remember that Torborg was a fine major league catcher who caught two no-hitters (Nolan Ryan’s first of seven and the one by Bill Singer) and a perfect game (Sandy Koufax). Thanks to diehard Sox fan Jacqueline Buzard, here’s a photo of the catcher’s mitt Torborg used in all three games. It is prominently displayed in the Hall of Fame Museum.
