JRW Little Leaguers Play for U.S. Championship Today
The youngsters from Jackie Robinson West, as a result of their 6-5 triumph Thursday night over the Taney Little League of Philadelphia, will face Las Vegas in the U.S. championship game of the Little League World Series today at 2:30 p.m., CT, on ABC (Channel 7 in Chicago). JRW will face the same Las Vegas team that prevailed when the two teams met earlier in the double-elimination tournament.
The White Sox take a great amount of pride in our fellow South Side team, which has six players who are members of the White Sox Amateur City Elite (ACE) program.

Sox Notes of Note
Reliever Eric Surkamp has been optioned to Class AAA Charlotte to make room for fellow reliever Javy Guerra, who was on the bereavement list…after being out of action for approximately two months with a fractured right wrist, the Sox’ 2013 first-round draft pick Tim Anderson was outstanding last night in his debut with the Class AA Birmingham Barons. Anderson went 3-3 with a double, a sacrifice and a run scored.
Quote of the Day
Jackie Robinson’s widow, Rachel, wrote a note to JRW’s Pierce Jones after the team won its first game in the Little League World Series. Here it is:
I have been following your tremendous march to the Little League World Series and am so proud of you and the entire Jackie Robinson West team. To have an African-American squad from Chicago, the first from the city to qualify for the Series since 1983, succeed and inspire other young men and women is so meaningful.
Thank you for upholding the legacy of my husband Jack, your namesake, through your hard work, dedication and excellent teamwork.
I congratulate you for winning the Great Lakes Championship and your first game in the Series. Please know that as you continue to play for the title, you give so many of us hope and inspiration.
Good luck with your upcoming games!
My very best wishes,
