Today’s News

Game Postponed

Tonight’s series opener of a three-game series between the Sox and the Twins has been postponed due to a forecast of rain throughout the evening and rescheduled for tomorrow as part of a straight doubleheader beginning at 3:10 p.m., CT.

The second game of the twin bill will begin approximately 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first game but not before the regularly scheduled 6:10 p.m. CT first pitch.

Jose Quintana will start the first game for the Sox. Scott Carroll will go in Game 2.

Comcast SportsNet Chicago Plus will broadcast the opener, while WGN will televise the nightcap as originally scheduled.

Tonight’s White Sox Miller Lite Irish flat cap promotional giveaway has been moved to Thursday, September 25 vs. the Royals. Tomorrow’s Paul Konerko promotional game-worn uniform baseball card, presented by Wintrust Community Trust Bank, will be given to the first 20,000 fans beginning when the gates to the park open at 2:10 p.m., CT.

Plays of the Day

Chris Sale was in his usual Cy Young Award form (click on top link below) and Marcus Semien‘s sixth-inning homer proved to be the difference as the Sox defeated the A’s 1-0 yesterday to take three of four in the series…Sale lowered his American League-leading ERA to 1.99 by tossing eight shutout innings, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out nine for his 12th win against just three losses…Semien’s blast (click on bottom link below) was his fourth homer of the season…Jake Petricka came on in the ninth and recorded his 13th save.

Center of Attention

Joakim Noah, who threw out the ceremonial pitch before yesterday’s game, chats it up with young Sox–and presumably Bulls–fans in the photo below.

And don’t forget that it’s Chicago Bulls Night tomorrow at U.S. Cellular.

Quote of the Day

Sale on his miniscule ERA, now under the 2.00 mark:

“It’s cool. I’ve said it a million times. I’m not a numbers guy. I don’t care about any of that stuff — the strikeouts, the ERA, whatever it is. There’s one stat that matters. It’s wins.”

The Sox and Cubs front offices played a couple of friendly games of slow-pitch softball last night. I’m happy to report we won both contests. Here are the winners!
