Tonight’s Game

White Sox vs. Royals at Surprise (8:05 p.m., CT, MLB Network). Sox Starter: LHP Carlos Rodon.

Sox Starting Lineup: Adam Eaton CF, Melky Cabrera LF, Jose Abreu DH, Adam LaRoche 1B, Avi Garcia RF, Conor Gillaspie 3B, Gordon Beckham SS, Brett Austin C, Micah Johnson 2B.

It will be a special moment tonight when Rodon takes the mound and looks in for the signs from catcher Brett Austin. At this time last year Rodon and Austin, the Sox’ first and fourth round picks, respectively, in the 2014 June draft, were batterymates at North Carolina State (see photo above).

Yesterday’s Highlights

Jose Abreu (a solo shot) and Tyler Flowers (a two-run blast) each smashed their first homer of the spring in yesterday’s 7-6 loss to the Rockies at Camelback Ranch-Glendale…

Gordon Beckham doubled in a pair of runs…Zach Duke (1.0 IP), Maikel Cleto (2.0) and Zach Putnam (1.0) pitched scoreless relief.

C Rob Brantly has been optioned to Class AAA Charlotte and INF Juan Diaz and OF Courtney Hawkins have been reassigned to minor-league camp.

“I didn’t know he didn’t have a homer to this point. I really didn’t. We are not worried about Abreu. We’ve seen what he can do and expect another big season out of him. He doesn’t miss the barrel much. I’m glad he’s on my team.”
