Today’s News

That’s Right, Just Nine Days From Now…

It’ll be Jeff Samardzija and the White Sox vs. Yordano Ventura and the Royals on Monday, April 6, at Kansas City’s Kauffman Stadium in the season opener. Can’t wait.

And, of course, every day we think of Minnie is a good day.

This Afternoon’s Game

White Sox vs. A’s at Camelback Ranch-Glendale (3:05 p.m., CT, CSN). Probable Starters: LHP Jose Quintana for the Sox, LHP Scott Kazmir for Oakland.

Yesterday’s Highlights

Melky Cabrera went 3-4 with a solo home run (1) and a pair of singles, Tyler Flowers hit a two-run homer–his second Cactus League round-tripper–and J.B. Shuck singled, doubled, scored a run and stole his fifth base of the spring in the 6-3 loss to the Cubs…Zach Duke and Javy Guerra pitched scoreless ball in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively.

A Second Generation Drabek Joins Sox

The White Sox have claimed RHP Kyle Drabek off waivers from the Blue Jays. Kyle’s dad, Doug, was drafted by the Sox in 1983, went elsewhere and came back to us in 1997 when he won 12 games. In all, he was a 155-game winner in 13 big-league seasons and also played with the Pirates, Astros, Yankees and Orioles.

Tough Guy

UFC champion Chuck Liddell visited Sox camp today. Here he is with (clockwise from top left) pitchers Quintana, Guerra, Hector Noesi and Dan Jennings.

Quote of the Day

Things are progressing for Chris Sale. The All-Star lefty, recovering from a fractured foot, threw a 75-pitch simulated game (five sets of 15) yesterday and is getting closer to claiming his customary spot in the rotation. Here’s Sale on his effort:

“…I wanted to see how it feels when I’m at max effort. Don’t want to baby this thing along and first time I try to have a max effort is in a game and you run into problems there. You try to build up, put as much stress on it here as I can so when the season comes I can handle it. I feel great, really. Today was a big confidence booster being able to go out there five different times and really do everything I’ve always done.”

Road to the Final Four

It’s a big weekend for the following Sox: Right-hander Samardzija and Senior Director of Baseball Operations Dan Fabian (Notre Dame), Assistant Athletic Trainer Brian Ball (Kentucky), Senior Executive Vice President Howard Pizer, Senior Director of Media Relations Bob Beghtol and Director of Digital Communications Brad Boron (Wisconsin) and Senior Coordinator of Social Media Colleen Maxwell (Michigan State). Each has his or her Final Four hopes on the line. Good luck to all.

Tomorrow’s Schedule

White Sox vs. Indians at Goodyear (3:05 p.m., CT, CSN). Probable Starters: RHP Scott Carroll for the Sox, RHP Carlos Carrasco for the Tribe.
