Quotes of the Day

Skipper Robin Ventura on Samardzija making the Opening Day start (via Scott Merkin, whitesox.com):

“The football (background) that he has, and the athletic part of him, just attitude-wise and everything, it suits up well for him to be able to have an Opening Day (start). Guys will be excited with him. Personality-wise, he likes to go after it.”

2005 Flashback

Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the White Sox’ championship season…

The Sox began their title run with a 1-0 Opening Day victory over Cleveland on April 4 at U.S. Cellular Field. Mark Buehrle pitched eight scoreless innings, allowing only two hits and Shingo Takatsu pitched a perfect ninth for the save. Aaron Rowand drove in the lone run and Paul Konerko doubled and scored. Ironically, the Sox clinched the World Series by the same 1-0 score in Game 4 vs. the Astros.
