His Time Has Come
The much-anticipated arrival of Carlos Rodon, the White Sox’ No. 1 pick and third selection overall in the June 2014 amateur draft, has become a reality as the 22-year-old left-hander has been promoted to the Sox from Class AAA Charlotte. The photo above shows Rodon signing his Sox contract last July 11. Now he’s a big-leaguer and will begin his tenure in the bullpen.
Rodon is 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA and 13 strikeouts in two starts with the Knights this season and has limited opponents to a .216 average. He struck out nine batters over five innings in his first start vs. Norfolk.
The North Carolina State product, who will wear No. 55 for the White Sox, entered the season ranked by Baseball America as the No. 1 Prospect in the organization. He combined to go 0-0 with a 2.92 ERA and 38 strikeouts in nine games (six starts) over three stops last season in the Sox minor-league system.
To make room for Rodon and Jake Petricka, who has been activated from the disabled list, the Sox placed Javy Guerra on the 15-day DL with right shoulder inflammation and designated Kyle Drabek for assignment.

Coming off his four-hit day on Saturday, Melky Cabrera added two more hits yesterday in the Sox loss…Jose Abreu tripled in a run (click on top link below) and Micah Johnson singled and stole his first major-league base (click on bottom link below).
Quote of the Day
Reliever Zach Putnam (pictured above), who has been unscored upon in his last two outings, talking about the advantage of having David Robertson as a bullpen mate (via Scott Merkin at whitesox.com):
“I’m trying to have him impart some of that knowledge on me as I develop (the cutter) as a third pitch…It was almost surreal listening to him talk…He was like, ‘Mo (future Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera, who was Robertson’s teammate with the Yankees) holds his like this and does this with it, and I’m like, ‘I wish I had a camera to record all this so I have it for future reference.’ But I’m trying to learn from him whenever I can.”
Sanchez IL Player of the Week
Charlotte’s Carlos Sanchez has been named the International League Player of the Week (April 13-19). He hit a blistering .536 with six runs scored, four doubles, a stolen base and six RBI for the Knights. He is among the league leaders in hits, on-base percentage and slugging percentage.
