Today’s News

Tonight’s Game

White Sox vs. Astros at U.S. Cellular Field (7:10 p.m. CT, CSN) in the opener of a three-game series. Probable Starters: LHP Chris Sale (5-2, 3.27) for the Sox, RHP Lance McCullers (2-0, 1.88) for Houston.

Sale struck out 13 batters over seven scoreless innings last Wednesday at Texas after fanning 12 over eight scoreless innings in his previous start on May 28 at Baltimore. Chris is 3-1 with a 1.40 ERA, six walks and 53 strikeouts over his last five starts. During that stretch, Sale has held opponents to a .144 average with a 0.64 WHIP. He has thrown 19.2 consecutive scoreless innings dating back to the fourth inning on May 23 vs. the Twins–the second-longest streak in the major leagues and second-longest of his career (28 from May 6-June 21, 2013).

As we posted previously, Sale joins Chan Ho Park (2000), Hideo Nomo (1995), Roger Clemens (1987), Nolan Ryan (1978) and Sandy Koufax (1965) as the only pitchers since ’65 to make back-to-back scoreless starts with at least 12 strikeouts.

Sale tried to explain why he’s on a roll:

“I couldn’t tell you. I try to go out there and pitch (well) every time. Sometimes you do, sometimes you don’t. I don’t now if there’s any rhyme or reason but you get in grooves and try to ride it.”

It’s another tough and sub-par season so far for the ChiSox and their fans.
