Sox Take Three Straight From Astros, Rays Next After Day Off

Following this week’s sweep of the Astros, the White Sox will enjoy a day off and then open a three-game game series tomorrow night vs. the Rays at Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg (6:10 p.m. CT, CSN). Probable Starters: LHP John Danks (3-5, 5.17) for the Sox, TBA for Tampa Bay.

The weekend set with the Rays is the first leg of a five-game road trip that concludes with Monday and Tuesday games vs. the Pirates in Pittsburgh. The Sox come home for a five-game homestand to face the Bucs again on Wednesday and Thursday and the Rangers for a three-game weekend series.

Last Night’s Highlights: LaRoche, Abreu Homer–and Soto, Too? Yes, Soto, Too!

Adam LaRoche belted a solo shot (No. 8) in the sixth inning to tie the score at 1-1 (click on top link below) and Geovany Soto‘s solo blast in the seventh (No. 3) put the White Sox ahead, 2-1 (click on second link), as we came from behind to defeat the Astros, 4-1, and complete the three-game sweep…Jose Abreu gave the Sox some insurance with a two-run homer in the eighth, his 11th (click on third link)…Jose Quintana, who gave up only a lone run in seven strong innings of work, was the beneficiary of the homers, earning his third victory of the season (click on fourth link)….Zach Putnam, in relief of Quintana, struck out the side in the eighth and  David Robertson came on to toss a scoreless ninth and record his 13th save, his third in as many nights…Additionally, J..B. Shuck knocked out a pair of hits and walked and Melky Cabrera robbed Houston’s Preston Tucker of a home run in the sixth (click on bottom link).

Quote of the Day

Skipper Robin Ventura on Quintana:

“For pitching in the tough luck he’s had over his career, he has an amazing ability to be focused on what he can control. Attitude wise, he’s great. He continues to just grind and go out and pitch well…he stays optimistic and takes care of his business.”

Sox Note of Note

Robin will miss the Rays series this weekend to attend his daughter Madison’s college graduation. Bench coach Mark Parent will take over the managerial duties in Robin’s absence while former Sox infielder Vance Law, the Sox’ minor-league hitting coordinator, will serve as the bench coach.
