Today’s News

This Afternoon’s Game

Last Night’s Highlights

Jose Abreu homered in his third straight game for the first time in his career–a two out, two-run shot for his 12th of the season in the seventh inning off the right field foul pole–in the White Sox’ 7-5 loss to the Rays…Alexei Ramirez added a pair of RBI, Adam Eaton had two hits and scored twice and righty reliever Junior Guerra made his Sox debut by pitching the seventh and eighth innings, allowing a lone run.

Abreu’s blast:

Quote of the Day

GM Rick Hahn on the Kap & Haugh show, talking about No. 1 draft pick Carson Fulmer and the possibility of the right-handed hurler out of Vanderbilt making a quick jump to the majors:

“Because of Chris Sale, because of Carlos Rodon and even to an extent, because of Gordon Beckham a few years prior to that, we’ve sort of gotten on this path where you take a guy in the draft and immediately people start talking about how he can help us in Chicago. And as much as we say, ‘You know well those are unique situations and that’s not the normal development path,’ we keep having guys such as Carlos and Chris and Gordon sort of defying the odds and making it to Chicago quickly.

“Carson is a guy we don’t want to put any specific expectations on in terms of his arrival. However, he does have the arsenal and the makeup that he could very conceivably handle an expedited development path…He’s a guy with considerable upside and the ability to capitalize on that fairly quickly.”

That’s Fulmer below after Vandy captured the 2014 College World Series championship. He will be on the mound as the Commodores begin their defense of the title tomorrow night vs. Cal State-Fullerton at 7:00 p.m. CT.  Sox fans can watch the talented righty as the game will be  televised on ESPN 2.

More Draft News

The White Sox have signed 26 of their 38 selections and 14 of the first 15 in this week’s MLB draft. Among them: LHP Zack Erwin (No. 4) from Clemson, RHP Jordan Stephens (No. 5) out of Rice, Oklahoma high school infielder Corey Zangari (No. 6) and RHP Blake Hickman (No. 7), a Simeon, South Side, White Sox Amateur City Elite and University of Iowa product. Fulmer, as pointed out, is still competing and has not signed.
