Today’s News

Tonight’s Game

White Sox vs. Indians at Progressive Field, Cleveland (6:10 p.m. CT, CSN). Probable Starters: LHP Jose Quintana (4-9, 3.83) for the Sox, RHP Corey Kluber (5-10, 3.38) for the Tribe.

Last Night’s Highlights

Jeff Samardzija (7-5) was brilliant, coasting through eight innings while allowing a run on four hits, and the offense busted loose with four homers in the Sox’ 8-1 victory…Melky Cabrera  hit a solo shot from the left side and a two-run blast from right side (Nos. 5 & 6), Alexei Ramirez (4) went deep with a three-run clout and Adam Eaton (8) went solo…Cabrera joins Ken Henderson, Tim Raines, Brian Simmons, Jose Valentin and Nick Swisher as the White Sox players who have homered from both sides of the plate in a single game. And it’s the second time in Melky’s career that he’s had a lefty-righty homer combination in one contest.

Quote of the Day

Robin on the impressive early showing by Tyler Saladino:

“He just has instincts, and it’s coming through. He’s not taking it for granted. He’s not a first-round pick or expecting anything. He’s trying to take advantage, and you see it in the way he plays.”

Here’s Tyler, who drove in a run with a sac fly last night, signing for fans after last night’s win over the Indians.

Sox Note of Note

Emilio Bonifacio was placed on the bereavement list and Leury Garcia was promoted from Class AAA Charlotte. Garcia, who singled in his one plate appearance last night, was hitting .301 with 27 stolen bases with the Knights.

Tomorrow’s Schedule

Photo of the Day

Carson Fulmer, the Sox’ No. 1 pick in the June draft, made his Class A Winston-Salem debut last night a successful one. The righty gave up one hit and struck out three in two scoreless innings.
