Last Night’s Highlights
On a festive night in Boston with the Red Sox and their fans celebrating the retirement of Pedro Martinez‘s No. 45, the White Sox spoiled the party with a 9-4 triumph for their sixth straight win. It came the night after scoring 10 runs in the victorious opener of the series…The Sox set the tone for the evening by getting out of the gate quickly in the first inning with five runs on RBI by Melky Cabrera, Avi Garcia, Geovany Soto (2) and Emilio Bonifacio (click on top link below)… Cabrera finished the night going 4-5 (a single, two doubles and a triple) in the Good Guys’ 14-hit effort, Soto added his seventh homer in the seventh (click on second link) and Jose Abreu, who singled and scored in the first, was 3-5 with a two-run homer and three RBI. Abreu’s homer in the sixth inning, his 16th, was granted after a review found that Boston’s Mookie Betts “didn’t have control of his body when he hit the fence and the ball popped out” (click on bottom link)…Jeff Samardzija won his eighth game of the year with eight strong innings of work. Shark has worked at least seven innings in his last 10 starts, the longest streak this year in MLB, and has worked seven-plus innings in 16 of his 21 outings.
