Today’s News

This Afternoon’s Game

White Sox vs. Rays at U.S. Cellular Field (1:10 p.m. CT, CSN) in the finale of the three-game series and six-game homestand. Probable Starters: LHP Carlos Rodon (4-4, 4.84) for the Sox, RHP Erasmo Ramirez (8-4, 3.61) for Tampa Bay.

Last Night’s Highlights

Tyler Saladino and Avi Garcia each went 2-4 with a solo homer–No. 3 for Tyler and No. 8 for Avi (click on links to watch). That’s Tyler in the photo below, crossing the plate after going deep.

Roster Move

The White Sox have placed reliever Daniel Webb on the 15-day disabled list with a mild back strain, returned reliever Nate Jones from his injury rehab assignment at Class AAA Charlotte and reinstated him from the 60-day disabled list.

Jones, 29, began the season on the DL while recovering from Tommy John surgery on his right elbow. He appeared in three games at Class A Winston-Salem and six with Charlotte on a rehab assignment, compiling a 1.93 ERA.

Quote of the Day

Robin Ventura, with his wry sense of humor, commenting yesterday on the 22nd anniversary of the night he rushed the mound and got into the much-ballyhooed tussle with Nolan Ryan:

“I don’t know if it’s a state holiday in Texas…Do people get the day off for it?”

Tomorrow’s Schedule

Off Day. On Friday night it’ll be White Sox vs. Royals at Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City (7:10 p.m. CT, CSN) in the opener of the three-game series. Probable starters: LHP John Danks (6-8, 4.80) for the Sox, RHP Edinson Volquez (10-6, 3.20) for K.C.

Photo of the Day

Add another major leaguer to the Baseball Encyclopedia. Trayce Thompson made his big league debut last night and he (No. 28) sure seems to be enjoying his first time in “The Show.”
