Coming Attraction: Erik Johnson, Sox Take On Twins Friday Night in First of Three
Thursday, September 10, 2015
After today’s day off, it will be the White Sox vs. Twins at U.S. Cellular Field (7:10 p.m. CT, CSN+) in the opener of a three-game series. Probable Starters: RHP Erik Johnson (1-0, 4.50) for the Sox, RHP Ervin Santana (4-4, 4.93) for Minnesota.
Johnson is set to make his second start of the season and first at home. He has gone 2-1 with a 3.86 ERA and 26 strikeouts in five career home starts.
The 2015 International League Most Valuable Pitcher earned the win in his first start this season after being recalled from Class AAA Charlotte. He allowed three runs on five hits over six innings in the Sox’ 7-5 triumph over the Royals last Sunday.
Tyler Saladino (No. 4) and Jose Abreu (27) smashed back-to-back solo homers in the bottom of the sixth inning (click on top click below) and Trayce Thompson homered in the second (No. 3) and singled in a run in the ninth (click on bottom link) in the Sox’ 6-4 loss to the Indians in the series finale…Avi Garcia had another two-hit night with a single and double…Reliever Matt Albers extended his scoreless appearance streak to 12 games (15.2 IP).
Sox Notes of Note
Abreu has now homered in back-to-back games for the 11th time in his career. Including his single last night, he is now batting .332 in the first inning lifetime…Thompson, hitting .408 overall, is batting .519 with two home runs and nine RBI at home…Garcia extended his hitting streak to six games, batting .435 during that span.
Quotes of the Day
Catcher Rob Brantly on catching Carlos Rodon Tuesday night for the first time in the majors (via Greg Garno, mlb.com): “Even when he was in a hitter’s count or a 3-2 he’d say, ‘I want the slider.’ and put it right where he wanted it. It was great. I saw all three today. I learned all three. There’s a hard one, it’s like a cutter. There’s one where he wants to throw it for a strike and there’s his putaway one, that one’s pretty dirty.”
@stevestone: Trayce Thompson is showing that right-handed pitchers don’t give him trouble. The more we see, the better he looks. Very exciting.

Dash with the Win
The Winston-Salem Dash, the Sox’ Class A-Advanced affiliate, captured Game 1 of the best-of-three Carolina League Southern Division Championship Series last night, 4-2, over visiting Myrtle Beach, a Cubs farm club.
Carson Fulmer (pictured above), the Sox’ No. 1 draft pick in June, started for the Dash and allowed one run, two hits and a pair of walks. Heading into the game Fulmer worked three innings in each of his starts and had a 1.00 ERA in his last six outings with 19 Ks in 18 innings.
Sox third base prospect Trey Michalczewski hit a two-run homer in the first inning and on the very next pitch, first-base prospect Keon Barnum belted a solo shot to give W-S an early 3-0 lead.
White Sox vs. Twins at U.S. Cellular Field (6:10 p.m. CT, WGN) in the middle game of the three-game series. Probable Starters: LHP Jose Quintana (8-10, 3.60) for the Sox, LHP Tommy Milone (8-4, 3.54) for Minnesota.
Also on Saturday night, watch Will Ferrell in a White Sox uniform:
