The Sox have the day off in Minneapolis. The three-game series with the Twins resumes on Wednesday night.
White Sox vs. Twins at Target Field (7:10 p.m. CT, WPWR) in the second game of the series. Starting Pitchers: LHP Carlos Rodon (0-1, 2.57) for the Sox, RHP Phil Hughes (0-1, 4.50) for Minnesota.
The White Sox began their six-game road trip to Minnesota (3) and Tampa Bay (3) with an impressive 4-1 win over the Twins…Jose Quintana took advantage of the Sox’ early run support and earned his first victory of the year. He went six innings, allowing just one run and four hits with five Ks. Q’s ERA in his first two starts is now 2.31 (click on top link below)…Brett Lawrie, Melky Cabrera and Todd Frazier each collected two hits while Frazier and Lawrie delivered RBI…Austin Jackson singled in a pair right of runs right after he missed a grand slam by inches as his drive toward the left-field pole veered foul (click on bottom link)…Matt Albers now has pitched scoreless ball in 24 consecutive appearances (27.1 IP) with a perfect seventh inning…Zach Duke (0.1 IP) and Nate Jones (0.2) hurled an unblemished eighth and David Robertson earned his third save in as many tries with a 1-2-3 ninth.
New Sox Shine
All four White Sox runs yesterday were driven in by the newest Sox. In fact, 14 of the 25 RBI this season have been brought home by new additions to the roster: Frazier (6), Jimmy Rollins (3), Jackson (3), Dioner Navarro (1) and Lawrie (1). Courtesy of @ckamka.
Quote of the Day
Adam Eaton on the birth of his first child, son Brayden.
“I don’t want to be cliché but it definitely puts life in perspective. It’s a feeling like I’ve never had before.”
Adam will fly home on the day off to be with wife Katie and his new son.
Benetti and the Pineapple Factor
A college friend of Sox TV voice Jason Benetti, unbeknownst to Jason, contacted Senior Vice President of Communications Scott Reifert and asked Scott if he would buy a pineapple and leave it on Jason’s chair in the broadcast booth prior to Saturday’s game. Scott secured the pineapple and made the delivery as requested.
So, what’s this all about? It seems that it’s an inside joke among Jason and his friends. They claim that college parties were always more fun with a pineapple present. And what better way to have fun AND celebrate Benetti’s first regular-season broadcast than with a pineapple in the booth.
That’s Jason and the pineapple in the photo above.
