First-Place Report

The White Sox (27-22) maintain their half-game lead over the second-place Indians. The Royals (one game) and Tigers (two games) are right behind.

This Afternoon’s Game

White Sox vs. Royals at Kauffman Stadium, Kansas Cty (1:15 p.m. CT, WGN) in the second game of the series. Starting Pitchers: LHP Carlos Rodon (2-4, 4.47) for the Sox, RHP Yordano Ventura (4-3, 4.81) for K.C.

Last Night’s Highlights

Melky Cabrera (grand slam) and Todd Frazier (solo shot) hit back-to-back homers in the sixth inning (click on link below) to give the Sox a 5-1 lead, but the Royals rallied and prevailed, 7-5…Frazier is now tied with the Mets’ Yoenis Cepedes and the Orioles’ Mark Trumbo for the MLB lead with 15 home runs…Austin Jackson collected a pair of hits and scored…Miguel Gonzalez had a quality start, allowing three runs in 6.1 innings of work.

Makeup Date

Thursday night’s rainout will be made up on September 19. It was previously an off day for both the Sox and Royals.

Tomorrow’s Schedule

White Sox vs. Royals at Kauffman Stadum (1:15 p.m. CT, CSN) in the finale of the series. Starting Pitchers: LHP Chris Sale (9-1, 2.26) for the Sox, RHP Edinson Volquez (5-4, 3.67) for Kansas City.

After Thursday night’s postponement, Sale was projected to be moved back to pitch against the Mets on Monday. Chris is now scheduled for Sunday with Jose Quintana, Mat Latos and Gonzalez set to face the New Yorkers.
