Today’s News

Last Night’s Highlights

Chris Sale notched his 11th victory to take over the major-league lead, the 1-2 punch of Tim Anderson (three hits) and Adam Eaton (two hits, HBP) reached base six times and Anderson scored thrice as the White Sox (33-33) tamed the Tigers, 5-3, to take the series two games to one.

Down 3-1, the Sox grinded out runs in the fourth and fifth innings on a pair of ground outs by Brett Lawrie and Eaton, respectively, to tie the game. The Sox took the lead in the seventh after Anderson’s first career triple and Todd Frazier‘s RBI sac fly and added an insurance run in the eighth as J.B. Shuck tripled home Avi Garcia.

Sale won No. 11 by tossing seven solid innings, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out seven. Nate Jones (eighth) and David Robertson (ninth) clinched it with two scoreless innings in relief of Sale. It was Robertson’s 16th save.

A happy recap:

Next Game on Friday

After today’s off day, it’ll be the White Sox vs. Indians at Progressive Field, Cleveland (6:10 p.m. CT, CSN) on Friday in the opener of a three-game weekend series and seven-game road trip that continues with a four-game set in Boston. Starting Pitchers: LHP Jose Quintana (5-7, 2.66) for the Sox, RHP Trevor Bauer (4-2, 3.69) for the Tribe.

Quote of the Day

Sale on Anderson, who is hitting .320 since being recalled last Friday:

“He’s been unbelievable, very professional. There’s very little up and down with him, very little emotion. He keeps himself in check, and that’s a very positive thing to see from someone like that. It’s not easy coming up here in the position he’s in, with all of the other hoopla that goes with it.

“Seeing what he has done, he basically won the game for us. He got three hits, scored three runs, got a triple. Right there, he gets the game back at zero. One guy in our lineup gets us back at zero, and I have confidence in our eight other guys to get a couple more, too. He changed the game for us today, so it was big.”

Saturday’s Schedule
