This Afternoon’s Game
White Sox vs. Twins (1:10 p.m. CT, CSN) in the rubber match of the three-game series as the Good Guys go for their third consecutive series win. It is also the finale of a six-game homestand. Starting Pitchers: LHP Carlos Rodon (2-6, 4.09) for the Sox, LHP Tommy Milone (0-2, 5.33) for Minny.
Last Night’s Highlights
James Shields tossed a strong 6.2 innings, Brett Lawrie (11), Tyler Saladino (5) and Todd Frazier (22) belted solo homers and every player in the starting lineup collected at least one hit as the Sox topped the Twins, 9-6, highlighted by a five-run sixth.
Shields gave up a leadoff homer in the first inning to Eduardo Nunez and that was it. He surrendered eight hits, a lone walk and struck out five. It was his first win in a Sox uniform and he is 1-0 with a 3.09 ERA in his last two starts.
Tim Anderson, Frazier, Dioner Navarro and Tyler Saladino led the 13-hit attack with two apiece as Tim and Tyler each drove in a pair. Anderson now has nine multi-hit games out of the 18 he’s played in the big leagues. Nate Jones recorded his second save.

Robin on Shields, who received a standing ovation from Sox fans as he exited the game:
“This is the best that he looked as far as just feeling comfortable. I think locating, he was getting ahead. He started really using his fastball, and he located it. I think after that there was some offspeed stuff, and he got guys swinging through it. This was a nice little thing to see. I’m sure it’s a breath of fresh air for him.”

Melky Cabrera‘s MRI revealed mild sprain in right wrist. He is expected to miss a few days…The Sox have hit 17 home runs (14 solo) over the last seven games…Lawrie is batting .458 with three homers, four RBI and four runs scored over his last six games…Anderson extended his hitting streak to six games. He is hitting .345 with three doubles, two home runs, four RBI and seven runs scored during the streak…Jose Abreu has reached base safely in 23 of his 24 games in June, batting .309 with seven doubles, five home runs, 20 RBI and nine RBI during that span.
After last night’s game, the Sox optioned LHP Matt Purke to Class AAA Charlotte. Today, 3B Matt Davidson, who hit 10 homers and drove in 46 in 75 games at Charlotte, was recalled from the Knights.
