Today’s News

This Afternoon’s Game

White Sox (42-40) vs. Yankees at U.S. Cellular Field (1:10 p.m. CT, CSN) in the opener of a three-game series and six-game homestand that continues with three vs. the Braves just before the All-Star break. Starting Pitchers: RHP James Shields (1-2, 11.07) for the Sox, LHP CC Sabathia (5-5, 3.17) for New York.

Q

Yesterday’s Highlights

Jose Quintana (6-8, 3.06) earned his first victory since May 8 as the Sox put together four runs of support–two in the third inning and a pair in the eighth–as the Sox triumphed over the Astros, 4-1, for our fourth straight series win.

Q was brilliant after giving up a leadoff homer to Houston’s George Springer. All in all, Quintana tossed seven innings and allowed just the one run on two hits and a pair of walks along with four strikeouts. Nate Jones pitched a perfect eighth with two Ks and David Robertson closed it out in the ninth for his 23rd save.

In the third inning, the offense went to work. J.B. Shuck walked and went to third on Tim Anderson‘s double. Adam Eaton drove in Shuck on a groundout for the Sox’ first run and Anderson scored on Jose Abreu‘s single, giving the Good Guys a 2-1 lead.

The one-run margin lasted until the eighth when the Sox scored two more. Alex Avila singled and was replaced Tyler Saladino, who stole second. Brett Lawrie then singled to score Saladino and Dioner Navarro drove in Lawrie with another single.

With a double and a single, Anderson collected his 11th multi-hit game in the 22 he’s played since arriving in the majors. He’s now batting an even .300.

The ChiSox started the season strong but are basically a .500 team right now.
